Roasted chicken!
My favorite family cooking traditions
Every Christmas, my daughter, my mom and I make sugar cookies using my mom's recipe she has used since I was a child. For our summer camping trips, I bring my Tin Foil Potatoes (diced russets with pats of butter thrown in with diced red onion, garlic salt, pepper, and rosemary all wrapped in foil) to throw on the grill alongside our tri-tip and in the husk corn on the cob for our first night's dinner. Yum!

Thanksgiving '09 - Brined a turkey for the first time ever, and I have to say it was the best tasting turkey I've ever had.
My cooking tragedies
Thanksgiving '98 - In the middle of roasting our turkey, I discovered our oven wasn't working properly, resulting in a half raw/half cooked bird :( yuck

Baked Slow Cooker Chicken
Made this over the weekend since it was very hot outside and I didn't want to fire up the oven. This was very easy to make, but I was disappointed in the end result. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the aroma while cooking was wonderful; however, even after seasoning the chicken liberally before slow cooking, it came out very bland. We ended up adding the chicken to some fettucine noodles and alfredo sauce, which turned out tasty, but I think I'll stick to oven roasting chicken.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad
This is the perfect salad for a potluck. I like to add some halved cherry tomatoes. Delicious!

Tacos in Pasta Shells
This is a new favorite in our house! I think this is a great make-ahead dish and it's easy to modify to suit your tastes. I used taco seasoning instead of the chili powder and salt and also used ground turkey. I added garlic powder to the meat while browning and added a splash of water to the taco seasoning. Instead of taco sauce, I used half a small can of Rotel mild chiles and tomatoes to add to the dish before adding the shells and then used the rest of the can over the top along with some marinara sauce (I also skipped buttering the shells). Added some black olives to the top before adding the cheeses. This was very tasty! So glad to have leftovers! Thanks for the recipe :)
