I love to cook for my family. Tyring out new recipes is always fun to me especially when my family likes them.
My favorite things to cook
I am not sure I have a favorite thing to cook. I love to cook lots of things. I especially enjoy cooking a new recipe and having it be enjoyed by my family which is why I like this site so much.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Cooking seafood gumbo on New Years Eve for family and friends and frying up a turkey for Thanksgiving with corn pudding and green beans.
My cooking triumphs
Probably being able to make a good seafood gumbo. My husband loves good New Orleans style cajun food and for him to give me two thumbs up on gumbo is a triumph. Making Roux is a bitch! I would also have to say that when I first learned to cook just about everything was awful. After almost 20 years of cooking I actually think I am finally a pretty good cook.
My cooking tragedies
Burning my finger while making Chocolate pudding and having to go to the emergency room for treatment. How embarassing is that!

Homemade Pancake Mix
To make this healthier I added a cup of ground flaxseed and a cup of wheat germ. I also increased the sugar to 1/2 cup to make them a little sweeter for my kids.

Candied Almonds
My husband came home with a three pound bag of almonds from Costco and I was thinking what ever will I do with this! I tried this recipe and it was quick and easy. I thought it was very good but I would like to add a little vanilla next time and maybe brown sugar. I felt like it was missing a little something but I will definately use it again. Atleast now I can use up some of those nuts!

Martha's Vegetable Beef Soup
I do make quite a few changes to this soup. First, I use Beef Stock instead of water. I use ground turkey instead of beef, and I add one can of rinsed Kidney beans and one chopped up potato. I substituted diced tomatoes for stewed. I also add indivdually my own mix of frozen veggies. After browning the meat I put it all in a Crock Pot to cook all day on low. Definately put it on High for 4-5 hours if you can't cook it all day. The longer it cooks the better.
