Cornbread Stuffing Southern Style

This is definately Not Southern style! The only veggies that a true southern cook adds are, onions and celery that have been sauted in butter. Also the only spices that should be added are, salt,ground black pepper, and Sage

Slow Cooker Stuffing

The crock pot sounded like a good idea, until I read the recipe.........Where's the cornbread?????. Sorry, but I wouldn't try it. Only cornbread stuffing ( or as southern cooks say, dressing) for me.

Mashed Potato Salad

This is a quick recipe and a very good substitute for old fashion potatoe salad. I make it even quicker by using Idahoan instant mashed potatoes, prepared as instructed.Decrease the mustard to 1/4 c. and substitute pickle relish for the sweet pickles. I also add 2-3 chopped boiled eggs. I've never used sour cream, but sounds good, so I may try it next time. I gave it 4 stars, since I gave my version.

Granny's Squash Casserole

The problem with it being too runny as some of the reviewers stated, is because it was boiled, which also takes away some of the flavor. Even when I fix squash, I put it and chopped onions in a little butter that I've melted in the skillet, put a lid on it and let it steam until almost done, I then remove the lid and let it cook until the water evaporates. You never should add water to squash, because as it steams, it makes it's own water.Also to add water, makes it mushy and takes away from the flavor. Vegetarians can add cr of mushroom, celery, or a cream soup of their choice. I also try to avoid packaged mixes with MSG, or preservatives and add my own spices. Hope this helps. Paula P.

Party Punch IX

This is delicious! We served it for our 3 daughters wedding receptions. One's colors were lavender and purple, so we mixed the strawberry gelatin with enough boiling water to dissolve it, then added grape juice. We also have a large freezer so we poured it in plastic buckets,(we quadrupled the recipe) and covered with heavy duty foil. When it would start freezing around the edges, we would stir it, replace the foil and continued to stir each time it would freeze around the edges until the whole container was frozen.( this is actually the way we made slushys when I worked at a dairy bar back in the early 60's as a teen) This way it never froze solid, but was like a slushy (eliminating the need for chopping, and in my opinion is tastier).We spooned it into the punch bowl and added chilled ginger ale, lemon lime soda is also good, and cheaper.We had so much left over from one of the weddings, that we froze it and 2 weeks later when my friend had a smaller reception we served it at hers.

Baked Oatmeal I

I definately didn't like this, even though I used an extra cup of milk since I used old fasioned oats, it was still too dry. I had to bake an extra 10-15 min. and it still didn't get firm in the middle. Also even though I reduced the sugar by 1/4 cup, I felt it was still too sweet. Oatmeal is so quick and easy to fix, why go to the bother of fixing it the night before plus heating the oven for 45 min. when you can fix it stove top for approx 5 min. max My husband took it to his monthly mens breakfast and brought half back. Those guys usually devour anything I send, so due to this plus my own feelings I rate it 3 stars
