Cherry Cheesecake Frozen Yogurt

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2015
Made as written. We loved the cream cheese addition and will probably use that in other frozen yogurt recipes. I was actually not a fan of the cherries, but I might have made the chunks too big. I cut the cherries into 8ths; if doing again I'd probably purée the cherries. Otherwise pretty good!

Byrdhouse Spicy Chicken and Peaches

Reviewed: Nov. 13, 2014
My family really enjoyed this. My only complaint about it is that the sauce was super watery for me. I'll definitely add some corn starch next time. But all the flavors worked really well together, and even tasted great poured over the steamed broccoli I made to go with it.

Peach Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 22, 2014
Disclaimer: I did make some changes. The flavor was great, but mine was an incredibly soupy mess. I used nectarines instead of peaches, brown sugar instead of white cut the sugar down to 2/3 cup, and didn't have a whole crust or even a lattice for the top, since I was using a previously prepared dough and didn't have enough. I can't imagine that letting it sit in the oven would have set it up anywhere near enough. As it was, I poured easily over a cup of liquid out of the pie, and it was still a puddle. It also leaked out all over my counter. Maybe it was the substitutions? I can't see how nectarines instead of peaches or reducing the sugar would make it wetter, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt. Again, the flavor was great.

San Francisco Style Bagels

Reviewed: Jan. 8, 2014
We don't have a bagel bakery where we live, and the supermarket doesn't carry garlic bagels, which are my husband's favorite. This recipe was so simple, I'm kicking myself for not trying to make them myself earlier. I put minced fresh garlic on half of them on the egg wash stage, and they were heartily approved. The non-garlic half were approved by me ^_^

Champagne Shrimp and Pasta

Reviewed: Oct. 8, 2013
We call this "Anniversary Pasta", because we've had it every year for our anniversary for almost ten years now. I usually have to sub out the champagne, often for white wine, which works well, and I'll throw in some garlic because we're garlic fiends. Otherwise it's as-written, and we love it so.

Chef John's Peanut Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2013
My dad who loves peanut butter cookies but never gets them at home (my mom hates peanut butter) loved these. I used an unsweetened, unsalted peanut butter because it's what I had, and I think I wouldn't do that again. They were fine, but a bit more salty sweetness would have probably gone a long way.

Easy Baklava

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2013
Wonderful! I didn't know baklava was so simple, even if it is rather time consuming. Made it for a preschool bake sale and it went over pretty well. I plan to make this again for christmas time.

The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2013
These were fine. I'm in the process of moving, and all my cookbooks were packed, so I looked for a new recipe here when my daughter begged to make sugar cookies. These were perfectly sufficient, I didn't have any of the sticking trouble people were talking about. I didn't even have to add more flour, did it just as written. I did roll them out with powdered sugar, not flour. These also held shape very well for me.

Peanut Noodles

Reviewed: Sep. 2, 2013
Pretty good! Used a smooth peanut butter, eyeballed most of the ingredients because I was making three things at once and didn't want to take the time, and we were all pretty happy with it! Will use as a side again. I did save about half the green onions to use as a garnish at the end, it looks quite lovely.

Mahogany Pork Chops

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2013
I've never cooked with meat other than chicken, so this was a nice, easy, simple-looking option for me to ease in on. It turned out exactly as easy and simple as it looked, and came out pretty darn good too! The marinade only made enough for me to coat the three chops I had, so I might increase the amount next time, but the proportion was lovely.

Carrot Recipe

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2012
i love making this as a dessert or side when we do an indian food night. i do replace the sugar with honey, and the milk always takes longer than the recipe says it should to evaporate for me, but i might just not be cooking it hot enough? either way eventually it all works out and i love the flavors and textures.

Autumn Cheesecake

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2012
this was my first cheesecake attempt. i made it for the first thanksgiving we hosted for my family as an alternative to our traditional pie spread, and it turned out fabulous. the apples didn't cut cleanly, me not having microwaved them first, but the appearance of the cake was quite striking.

Baked Coconut Shrimp

Reviewed: Sep. 1, 2012
i love love love shrimp, especially coconut shrimp, and to find a recipe that was baked not fried was awesome. i left out the salt and once tried it with unsweetened coconut, but decided sweetened was definitely the way to go. i found it helpful to not add all the coconut mixture to the bowl at the same time, so that i don't end up trying to dredge shrimp in a goopy sticky mass.
