Buttermilk Syrup

Reviewed: Mar. 28, 2006
This recipe is soooo yummy--I've made it several times and it's a big hit around here. I actually made it yesterday and cooked it about ninety seconds too long because someone came to the door. I thought I'd ruined it, but it turned out even more delicious--more of that heavenly caramel flavor.

Asian Roll Lettuce Wrap

These were really hard to eat and an awful lot of preparation. Wasn't crazy about the dressing. We ended up eating them like salads.

Soft Sugar Cookies V

Reviewed: Sep. 18, 2003
I have been searching and SEARCHING for the perfect soft sugar cookie recipe and I think this is it! The key is them still being soft the next day. I rolled them fairly thick and was careful not to overbake them, and I think that helped. I also substituted grated orange rind for nutmeg because I'm generally not a huge nutmeg fan. I iced them with cream cheese icing and they were a huge hit! Thanks, Eileen. P.S. I also used 1/2 butter and 1/2 margarine becaue I was out of butter and I think that may have helped them hold their shape. Just a thought.

Fantastic! Not much more to say...my husband asked if we could drink the marinade.

Broccoli Cheese Soup III

Reviewed: Aug. 2, 2003
I had a hard time getting mine to thicken up. I added a small onion for flavor. Next time, I think I'll add more broccoli--I think the fact that the broth was so thin made the broccoli seem even more sparse. BUT the flavor was pretty good and it was an easy meal.

Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

These were definitely the best on the first day. Somehow, the meat in the leftovers got a little dry and tough. But my hubbie loved it and he HATES cabbage!

Easy Hummus

Reviewed: May 15, 2003
My husband wouldn't kiss me for two days, and the garlic adds (surprisingly) enough heat for me, so I didn't use the jalapeno. Good hummus, though.

Basic British Scones

Reviewed: May 15, 2003
These were pretty good--the first batch was a little bland, so I added some blueberries, spices, and buttermilk instead of regular milk. Note: They don't spread, they just puff up, so keep that in mind when you're cutting/shaping them. Also, better to underbak them than to overbake them.

Ginger Pork

Reviewed: May 14, 2003
Really tasty right after it was done, but doesn't do well with time--my husband ate it an hour later and it wasn't nearly as good. Also, leftovers didn't reaheat very well. Next time, I'll REALLY shake off the excess flour and I think I'll add some veggies--maybe some carrots and brocolli or snowpeas; a little too much meat all at once for me. But all in all, the flavor was great!

A little bland, but, like others said, a great starting off point. I mixed one batch with cliantro and lime juice and another with salsa fresca. Yum!!

Cooking Light magazine's Chicken Parmesan

The flavor was excellent, but both nights we had it, I just felt weighed down after--it's a very heavy meal even if it's from Cooking Light.

Absolutely Fabulous Greek/House Dressing

This was pretty darn good. It was a little too tangy for my husband, but I loved it. It would probably go great on sandwiches. Thanks!1

Tortillas I

Reviewed: Mar. 7, 2003
Way too much work without enough of a reward. These were okay, but there's a restaurant near my house where they make the tortillas in front of you and this recipe doesn't hold a candle to their's--they just lack flavor, a certain something.

Real Italian Calzones

I, like lots of other people, made changes in the filling (mozzarella, more ricotta, etc.), but the dough was absolutely incredible! Thanks for a great recipe! P.S. Has anyone tried the dough as pizza dough? If so, did it work out or was it too flimsy?

Amish Sourdough Pancakes

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2003
Maybe it was the pancake mix I used, but I was expecting these to be a lot better. The outside was tough and hard to cut and the inside was so airy that you didn't feel like you were getting enough bang for your buck. The flavor was minimal, and I have a great sourdough starter. The best pancakes are somehow light and fluffy and dense at the same time, and these weren't it.

Burrito Pie

Reviewed: Feb. 22, 2003
My only problem with this recipe is that, after reading the other reviews, I decided I would probably add some taco seasoning. So when the recipe was as it was, it really lacked something, and, as I added the taco seasoning bit by bit, it started to bite back a little (a good thing), but it still needed something. The way it worked out, it ended up being a little too spicy for my taste, but I liked it and my family loved it.

Roasted Pork Tenderloin

I actually made these into porkchops and they had great flavor and were really tender. However, for me, they just lacked that extra "oomph" to be a 5-star recipe.
