The Best Rolled Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2013
The dough was sticky so I refrigerated it overnight. I made the dough exactly as directed (apparently this was my biggest mistake according to the reviews). There was no way to roll it out and cut it into shapes, so I rolled into balls as best I could and pressed them down slightly. They puffed up and spread out like cake batter! These were not sugar cookies, they were cakey puffy coookies. The flavor was bland and the texture unappealing. There is too many eggs and baking powder in the recipe.

Kanafa

Eating this was pure evilness. I can't even explain how amazing this is. It's sweet and cheesy and buttery and crunchy and gooey. And evil. I added sweet cheese to the filling, about a half pound chopped up. It's found in middle eastern groceries. And I added pistachios to the top...bottom? Walnuts that are toasted well in the baking process are a delicious and cheaper alternative to pistachios if you choose to add nuts. Spread the chopped nuts, about 1/2 cup, on the bottom of the baking dish before the first layer of kataifi. And add some red food dye to the syrup for a beautiful presentation or holiday event. Do not skip the rose water. I have made this with orange blossom water and rose water combined and the taste is incredible, too. It's hard to find kataifi, even in all the international grocers in ATL. But the search is WELL WORTH IT!

Taco Seasoning I

Reviewed: Sep. 27, 2012
I have found so many uses for this recipe. I'm very happy to have a cheaper and healthier alternative to the packets. I put this in chili, season chicken and fish with it, put in Mexican chicken soup, rice, everything. I even tried it in grits....do not try it in grits (duh). Just be sure not to pre-salt what you are making because the salt in this mix is strong enough on it's own.

Chocolate Rum Balls I

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2011
I feel bad giving it only 2 stars, but no one ate them on Christmas. My brother brought some he made and they were quite good compared to these. I made them exactly as the recipe states, and they came out strong, crumbly firm, and not very sweet or chocolatey. Maybe I am just not a big fan of rum balls in general, but these didn't go over well at my house.

Oven Roasted Potatoes

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2011
I made this for Christmas dinner and changed a few things. I parboiled the potatoes first by putting them in cold salted water and then bringing them to a boil, removing them immediately and then mixing them with the ingredients for the recipe. I added red onion, chives, and chopped shallots and garlic to the mixture as well and I think they came out good, except the crushed pepper flakes were a little too strong. They were good and I do NOT think they needed the extra ingredients I added. Next time I will make using half the crushed pepper flakes.

Gooey Butter Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 22, 2010
These cookies are very rich. I'm now a weight watchers flunky. It didn't help that I added a handful each of white, milk, and semisweet chocolate chips and used butter pecan cake mix. I just dropped them on a cookie sheet with a small cookie scoop instead of chilling & rolling into balls. They came out perfect. Should go over well on Christmas.

Honey Bun Cake I

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2010
I totally pirated this recipe. What came out was really good, especially the next day- nuke it for 15 seconds, it's so yummy. First, I only used 1/3 c. oil, I replaced the sour cream with 2/3 c. fat free sour cream & 1/3 c. fat free plain yogurt. I added 1/2 c. applesauce to make the cake moist since it lacks the extra oil. That's the only changes to the cake. I did put it in a nonstick bundt pan sprayed with Baker's Joy and baked at 350, not 325 for 40 mins. It came out beautifully and smelled awesome. Instead of the glaze, I made my own with 2 tbls butter, 2/3 c. brown sugar, & 1/3 c. water heated until boiling, then off the heat I added 1/4 c. whiskey very slowly. I poured it over the warm cake. So good, but even better the next day.
