Grandma's Baking Powder Biscuits

Reviewed: Dec. 20, 2012
I just made these and I'm thinking that I'll use this same recipe for drop biscuits from now on!! It's a cold, snowy day here in MN so my sister prepared beef stew and I made these biscuits. My sister, brother-in-law and I agreed that they were the fluffiest biscuits we'd ever tasted. The only things I did differently were butter instead of shortening and I cut down the sugar to 1 TBSP. Thank you for this wonderful recipe!!

Nana's Apple Crisp

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
I think this is the best apple crisp that I've ever attempted!! I used 4 granny smith apples and I left the peels on. I also used only half cup of white sugar and half cup of brown sugar. I baked it in a 9 in. pie pan and it worked perfectly! Next time I think I'll only cook it for 45 min. instead of 50 because the top got a little crunchier than I prefer. Thanks for the recipe!!

Chicken Enchilada Casserole II

Reviewed: Jul. 10, 2012
I just served this casserole for dinner with a friend I hadn't seen in awhile. I wanted to have something special to eat, so I decided to experiment with this recipe. I'm soooo glad I took the risk. It was really delicious!!! I just made a few changes. I didn't have any chicken on hand, so I used ground beef instead. After I drained the ground beef I stirred in taco seasoning and 1 can of enchilada sauce. I used corn tortillas instead of flour and I left them whole instead of cutting them into strips. After I put a layer of ground beef down, I spread refried beans, then I put a layer of the sour cream mixture. I only used half the container of sour cream, and I used onion powder instead of diced onions, because I was on a time crunch. Other than that I left the sour cream mixture the same as the recipe. I was a little nervous as I put it together, but it had a delicious flavor!! Will definitely make again!

Cowboy Oatmeal Cookies

Reviewed: Jul. 6, 2012
I followed the recipe almost exactly, only inserting some vanilla and they turned out wonderful!! I had to tell myself to stop eating the dough because it was so good. Then I took the cookies over to my friend's house to go with our dinner. She has three kids. Her oldest daughter picked up one and took a bite. Then her eyes got big and she told me that it tasted like a yankee candle smells. Between the four of us we nearly polished off the cookies I brought that night :)

Gramma's Apple Bread Pudding

Reviewed: May 21, 2010
Wow!! I wish I could give it more than just five stars. This was truly extra special!! I had a mixture of whole wheat and white hot dog buns to use up and a couple pieces of cinnamon bread. I ended up using 6 cups of bread cubes. I also had a mushy apple that was headed towards the trash, so I cut that up. I used a tsp of cinnamon and a tsp of nutmeg and it turned out perfectly. Not soupy at all. If I wasn't so full I'd have another serving. Didn't make the sauce, we used whipped cream instead.

Whole Wheat Banana Nut Bread

Reviewed: May 20, 2010
This bread is excellent!! I had some whole wheat flour and some very ripe bananas to use up so I tried this recipe. Very moist and considering there is no sweetener apart from the honey, I think it has just the right sweetness. I followed the recipe except I replaced the oil with apple sauce and I add pecans. Next time I may throw in some cinnamon and raisins for added flavor, but it is good as is. Thanks for posting :)

Raisin Apple Muffins

Reviewed: May 12, 2010
These were excellent!! I so enjoyed them and my family did also. We had them with some chicken noodle soup on a very cold, dreary day and they were perfect. The only changes I made were to double the cinnamon and I used 1/8 cup oil and 1/8 cup applesauce. The rest I kept the same. Will make often!

Orange Spiced Carrots

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
I don't love cooked carrots, but I thought this recipe had a nice little zing. I used fresh ginger and fresh squeezed orange juice and it went nice with my curry chicken and rice.

Rhubarb Bread I

Reviewed: May 7, 2010
Made this last week to take to a women's retreat. I'm glad I took a slice before I set it out. I went back to see if there were any leftovers so I could have another slice......nope. I also left a loaf at home and when I got back there were 2 slices left. This was amazing bread. I followed the recipe except that I used 2 cups rhubarb and doubled the topping. Will probably make again soon.

Anniversary Chicken I

Reviewed: Apr. 14, 2010
Loved this chicken recipe....it had a nice little zing with the ranch dressing and it was so juicy and tender. My family loved it, with my mom raving loudly how delicious it tasted. I followed the recipe almost completely except that I used yellow onion in place of the green. I also used fresh bacon and I added the bacon and cheese half way into the baking. It came out perfect. Will definitely make again.

Tasty Whole Wheat Bread

Reviewed: Apr. 3, 2010
Definitely a five star bread!! Made all 4 loaves in preparation for a big Easter meal and my mom, dad and I had to try a slice right out of the oven. We all were amazed at how delicious it tasted, especially since I'm a beginner at bread baking. I followed the recipe completely and I don't think I would change a thing.

Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal

Reviewed: Mar. 10, 2010
I made this oatmeal for breakfast today and served it to my dad and sister. I followed the recipe almost exactly, adding a little nutmeg with the cinnamon. It was alright, but could use a little tweaking. My dad suggested salt and I think I would use less liquid next time and cover the sliced apples with cinnamon and nutmeg, before boiling them in the liquid. I tried topping the oatmeal with white sugar, but it still tasted pretty bland, so then I tried brown sugar and it turned out delicious. I will keep trying and experimenting. This is a great start.

Dreamy Nighttime Drink

Reviewed: Mar. 9, 2010
This was fabulously cozy! I enjoyed it more than usual cup of tea before bed. I followed the recipe exactly and then added a sprinkle of nutmeg with the cinnamon. Next time I will only heat for 2 min and 45 sec, because mine overflowed in the microwave. I will have to share this with friends.

Chocolate Surprise Cupcakes

Reviewed: Feb. 27, 2010
I followed the recipe completely except that I stuck the cream cheese filling in between two chocolate layers. Everyone raved about them, even those who usually don't love dessert! Thanks for the recipe :)

Baked Ziti I

Reviewed: Feb. 23, 2010
I just got done eating a heaping plate full of this stuff. It was so delicious!! And might I add, very simple to put together. The sour cream added a nice zip to it. I pretty much followed the recipe. I did add a little garlic salt and oregano to the meat and onions. Instead of ground beef I used Italian sausage. And I put the sauce directly on top of the ziti like someone else suggested. I will make again many times I'm sure.

Lemon Cake

Reviewed: Feb. 13, 2010
If I could give this cake more stars I would!! I was given the job of making the dessert for my mom's birthday. Usually we go out to dinner/dessert or just have an ordinary chocolate sheet cake. This year we wanted to do something different. After reading all of the reviews for this cake, I wondered if it could really be as good as people raved. It was even better. I followed the recipe almost completely except that I used a lemon cake instead of a yellow cake. And I also used a 9X13 instead of 10X15. It was so moist and delicious. I'm not always a big dessert eater, but I had 2 pieces the night of the party and then 2-3 more the next day. Everyone in the room, when they sampled the cake just declared loudly, Yum!! Thanks for posting such a delicious recipe. I will definitely make again and again and again.
