As a kid, I watched my Grand Mother cook. Part owned a vegetarian rest. back in the '70s. Being independent and from a large family, I just enjoyed making things to take to gatherings. Gardening and cooking came hand and hand. Soups and stews and specialty items were always a hit at gatherings. Am constantly asked to remake several dishes for special occasions. Have recently gotten into making cakes and such, even tho I am not a big sweet eater. To me, cooking is a relaxing thing and not a chore. Presentation means a great deal. I have seen so many people cook in an angry manner and the results are a mess. If your dish did not come out correct, and it was a pain to make, then more than likely, you did not want to be in the kitchen anyway. You have got to want to be there and have the patience to do what it takes to have a succesful result for your efforts.
My favorite things to cook
Hearty soups and stews.....shell fish and fish...specialty items and of late, cakes. Anything that is a challenge and someone tells me " thats gonna be hard, or you can'nt do that." Its gonna be good ! And if I sense, they really want it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
None to speak of. Thanksgiving dinner...special occasions.
My cooking triumphs
Anything that comes out so good and has a good presentation and your efforts were rewarded by a great result. To watch your outcome be eaten without hesitation.
My cooking tragedies
We all have them. Maybe as a joke when I put boiled quail eggs in jello.
