Tiramisu II

Reviewed: Jun. 15, 2011
Like other reviewers, I made more of the coffee mixture for dipping...I halved the recipe because I only had an 8oz. tub of mascarpone, and I'd say I had a little over a cup of the dipping mixture, and it was barely enough. I didn't have rum, so I subbed in some Kahlua. YUM. That said, this tiramisu is nothing short of spectacular. I wanted to lick the bowl out when I was done eating it.

Sam's Famous Carrot Cake

Reviewed: Apr. 24, 2011
We don't like lots of "stuff" in our carrot cake, so at another reviewer's suggestion I used 3 cups of carrots and left out the coconut, raisins, walnuts and pineapple. The cake was amazing! I frosted it with my favorite -- Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting from allrecipes....absolutely perfect for this cake.

Leek and Turkey Pizza

Reviewed: Aug. 15, 2008
I wish I could give 4.5 stars, because this was really, really good, but it was missing something and we still haven't put our finger on it. I used fresh rosemary dough for the crust, and used homemade turkey sausage...yum! This was the perfect thing to make with the leeks I planted never having eaten leeks before. ;)

Scrumptious Strawberry Shortcake

Reviewed: Aug. 1, 2008
I just made this using the standard mods (2.5t baking powder, no cream of tartar) and it turned out FANTASTIC. I took my butter right out of the freezer and diced it all up with a sharp knife, so the mixing was quick and painless. The shortcake is soooo flaky and has just the right amount of sweetness.

Mexican Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

Reviewed: May 5, 2008
The first time I made these I thought it might be too much work...but honestly, every time I make them it gets easier and easier. I use freshly ground spelt flour in place of the wheat flour, and olive oil instead of shortening. They're fantastic!

Naan

Reviewed: May 1, 2008
Wow. Now I've never been to an Indian restaurant, so I can't speak to the authenticity of this recipe -- but it sure does make some tasty, tasty bread. Even my ultra super picky kids love it. YUM. Since I'm pretty cautious about new recipes I made a half-batch, which made 8 rounds that are about 6" in diameter. I added 1/4 teaspoon of baking powder, and sauteed the garlic in oil as other reviews had suggested, instead of kneading it into the dough. This is absolutely a keeper.

Whipped Cream Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Aug. 28, 2007
This is our absolute go-to, all purpose, foolproof frosting. It pipes so beautifully, and it's so sweet and cream-cheesy without being heavy. I've been making it for over three years now...thanks so much for sharing the recipe. :)

Kate's Light n' Fluffy Buttermilk and Chocolate Chip Waffles

Reviewed: Nov. 14, 2006
I have to say that these are practically foolproof. My three year old helped me make them and I completely breezed past the part of the recipe that said to beat the egg whites separately (oops). Even still, they turned out fabulous! I can only imagine how much better they'll be when I actually follow the directions!...my kids are freaking thrilled with the chocolate chips alone, which elevates me to Hero Mom status. Thanks for sharing the recipe, Kate! :)

Grandma's Homemade Banana Bread

Reviewed: May 8, 2006
I had used the same recipe since I was 17 years old...until I tried this one. I had some buttermilk to use up, so I gave it a try and HOLY COW, it's the BEST. My old recipe is in the trash!! Thansk for sharing!

Irish Soda Bread Cookies

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2006
Wow, these are fantastic! We made them without the currants or seeds 'cause we're not big fan of "stuff" (other than chocolate) in our cookies. I did have to add a little more buttermilk too, to get the dough to a rolling consistency. They turned out so great -- I like them unfrosted but of course my kids must frost and sprinkle every cookie they have a hand in making! ;) Thanks for the recipe!

White Peach Sangria

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2005
This recipe is fan-freaking-tastic! We made it for a party and had to hastily throw together a second batch because it disappeared so quickly. It wasn't quite as good because of course we couldn't let it chill to blend, but it was still a huge hit!

Mom's Yeast Rolls

Reviewed: Oct. 5, 2004
I'm giving this 4 stars because the rolls were good, but I did have to do some tweaking. As many reviewers mentioned the dough was extremely sticky. I halved the recipe (so it only called for 2 3/4 cups flour) and I still had to add almost a cup and a half of flour to get the dough to a point where it could be shaped. The dough rose and baked beautifully -- the consistency of the finished rolls was darn near perfect. The taste was kind of bland -- I think that next time I will do a slow first rise in the fridge to see if that helps the flavor. I wouldn't recommend it to a yeast bread novice, but for me, this recipe is definitely a keeper. Thanks for sharing it!

While I agree that the taste is slightly bland and needs a little tweaking, the consistency of this bread is PERFECT and it is SO easy to make. Thanks for sharing!!
