Easy OREO Truffles

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2011
This may be the easiest and yet glam holiday cookie, yet! I took these to a holiday cookie swap and they were a major hit. To add a modern touch, sprinkle with coarse salt for the salted-chocolate lovers out there. Also try "Golden Oreos" and white chocolate. Great recipe!

Pumpkin Pancakes

Reviewed: Oct. 20, 2011
I used to hate pumpkin growing up and now I devour anything remotely pumpkin flavored. I made this for my boyfriend and I for breakfast as a pre-Halloween treat. I followed the recipe according to instructions except altered somewhat according to the other reviews: I added an extra egg, a 1/4 cup more of pumpkin, an additional tablespoon of brown sugar (my boyfriend has an insane sweet tooth), and used 2 tsps of Pumpkin Pie spice versus the individual spices. I also found the batter to be a bit thick so I added some water. I also found that the pancakes need more time to cook on each side than normal pancakes (the batter is a bit thicker due to the pumpkin). The flavor was clearly pumpkin but not overly sweet. Almost like a pumpkin muffin in flavor. My boyfriend loved it (he ate 8 at once!) so it is a hit. Easy to make and beautiful end result color/texture.

Grandma's Egg Custard Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 3, 2011
Can you say: "Super quick"? If you are in a time crunch but need a quick, tasty dessert, then you have found your miracle recipe! This was super quick and easy to prepare. I followed the recipe and tweaked it a little per the other reviewers. I used a frozen pie crust and let it thaw slightly but also poked the crust with a fork and used a egg white wash for the golden crust result. I also added the extra egg yolk to the custard mixture. I used 1% milk and had no problem with texture (and I didn't scald the milk either and just merely blended the ingredients with a hand mixer). The pie was light and not overly sweet and almost flan-like. My boyfriend and neighbor loved it! A winner!

Pear Sour Cream Pie

Reviewed: Sep. 11, 2011
I'm not a pear lover-- but my boyfriend is, so I made this pie for him. I followed the recipe's directions however, I used an extra pear. I also added more sugar and cinnamon to the streusal topping which I felt it needed. I suggest using an egg white wash ont he crust (I used a frozen pie crust) because the base was a bit soggy. Other than that, my boyfriend and neighbor (who had two pieces) absolutely loved it. Plus, it looks great too!

Orange-Glazed Cornish Hens

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
Complete failure. I followed the recipe and resulted in cornish hens swimming in orange juice. The glaze never thickened or , well, "glazed". It was not to my liking.

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
Perfect! I live in Los Angeles which is rich in Mexican/latina culture. This cake is spot on. So much so, that my Mexican 70 year old neighbor devoured some of the pieces I gave him. Not sure why others had a problem with the amount of liquid because I followed the recipe and had no issue. I allowed the cake to soak in the milks and then waited to add the whipped cream topping before serving. Sidenote: it smells SO delicious while baking!

This is a VERY interesting mac and cheese version NOT for everyone. However, if you are a blue cheese lover, then this is for you! The taste is unique and gourmet and yet easy to make. A must try!

Cantonese Dinner

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
The flavors of this dish are unique and tasty, but somehow the portions were tiny. I would up the amount of meat used (and the other ingredients accordingly). Otherwise, not bad!

Delicious Easy Chicken Francese

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2011
Although delicious, I had a problem with the thickness of the sauce. Basically, it never thickened! I tried to use some cornstarch but that didn't seem to the trick. Hmm. Other than that, it was rather delicious and easy to make!

Daria's Slow Cooker Beef Stroganoff

Reviewed: Mar. 1, 2010
ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I received many compliments on this dish! I didn't stray too much from the recipe although I did add more cloves of garlic, fresh versus dried chives (and more of it), more Worcestshire, and an additional beef bouillon cube. I also suggest lest sour cream.. I think it was too thick. Served with wheat egg noodles.. this dish is a win!!

Carnation® Raisin Bread Pudding

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2010
This is one of the simplest recipes to create and yet results in a sweet, rich concoction. Similar to other reviews, I let it bake for 45 minutes an hour, which did not dry it out too much and still let it very soft. Instead of regular bread, I used Cinnamon swirl bread (NOT Cinnamon Raisin-- I added my own raisins), cubed; which resulted in a cinnamon roll flavor. Thus, I also reduced the cinnamon ingredient. I did not add nutmeg; as I am not a nutmeg fan. To serve, I topped it with cinnamon to decorate and Carnation condensed milk swirled which not only created a beautiful display, but lovely accented flavor. On other pieces, I omitted the condensed milk and topped it with raw, white Star Thistle Honey (you can find this at gourmet stores). This was also lovely. My boyfriend warmed it up with Ben & Jerry's and enoyed it a la mode. Overall, a great recipe.

BAKER'S S'more Brownies

Reviewed: Feb. 6, 2010
These brownies are exceptional and very fast to prepare (don't let the somewhat tricky directions fool you). The only difficult part is that the brownie batter is very thick because there are 3 eggs versus any oil in the mixture which results a spreadable mixture as opposed to pourable. Thus, it is messy to spread the mixture onto the graham crackers without moving them around. Other than that, no problems with this recipe! The presentation is lovely and receives many rave reviews. The taste? A campfire S'more, straight from your childhood!
