About this Cook
Hi- I'm Nowal and I love to cook! I'm really into movies, music, fashion and books and I'm always trying out new things to keep me busy. My boyfriend is a Rock Star (seriously) and we live in Milwaukie, OR with our 3 y/o German Shepherd, Radar O'Reilly. :)
My favorite things to cook
Not gonna lie, I just love to cook! I really enjoy coming up with my own recipes by making a mental checklist of what I have on hand & what would go well together. I've only had 1 failed experiment out of many, so yay on me! I love going out to eat & recreating things at home later :) Also, I make a mean Vegan Soul Food dinner for my Vegan pals. (Not a Vegan/Vegetarian, just nice!)
My favorite family cooking traditions
My Mom taught me & my sister how to cook when we were very young. She would have us do simple tasks to help her and as we got older she gave us more responsibilities. I love going to visit them because we always make a big Middle Eastern feast together! Mmm Mmm MMM!!! :D
My cooking triumphs
Getting my boyfriend to try new things! When we first met, we were living in college housing & his diet mainly consisted of Top Ramen, hot dogs, frozen chicken patties and soda. Well, now he loves fresh and healthy foods and we've started our own garden! I'm so proud haha :) He's forever telling me I need to start a restaurant & figuring out how much I could charge for my dishes at chain restaurants.
My cooking tragedies
Ohhhhhh man. I'd bought a couple of tuna steaks at the store and wanted to give them an island flare. I made some rice with coconut milk and seasoning, which turned out well. The tuna. . .oh man. I'd never made it at home before, so I didn't realize how salty it was. I marinated it in soy sauce and pineapple. . .it was like eating a tuna shaped salt like. SO gross. I've decided to leave the tuna to the pros. . .yikes!

Zesty Slow Cooker Chicken Barbecue
SO GOOD! I followed the recipe exactly and added a few garlic cloves & a splash of hot sauce. The main photo inspired me to do a kind of Cuban themed meal, so I served the chicken over coconut basmati rice (replace some of the H20 with a small jar of coconut milk & add a bit of salt/creole seasoning) with black beans and avocado on the side. DELICIOUS. I will be making this repeatedly!
