Wife, mom, grandma and great-grandma. Married 30 years and still in love! Learned to cook from my mama who also grew up in the South. Unfortunately, she didn't have to write down recipes, so I have none of hers. But some things I do remember and I jot them down as they're recalled. I also have a husband who is diabetic but loves to eat so I try to make food time special for him.
My favorite things to cook
My husband is a pie lover, so I bake one a week. I love making a good stew or pot of soup, and also enjoy making main dishes like turkey tetrazinni, meatloaf, or a good baked chicken or a pot roast.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Fried chicken for sure! Mama made the best and I do it just like she did.
My cooking triumphs
I'm not sure I've had any triumphs that I recall, but my husband believes that being able to make a pie without sugar is triumph enough.
My cooking tragedies
My first husband wanted biscuits and fried chicken two weeks into our marriage. I called mama and she instructed me as to how she made biscuits. They were rock solid, and the chicke undercooked.
Caveat: This meal had nothing to do with the demise of my first marriage! :)
