Well folks, So here we go with some more (hopefully rivetting) information. This year we have had a funny summer - very hot back in April and May, but not that much sun after the vegetables were planted. This year, my tomatoes just aren't developing as well as they did last year. Last year you ma MORE

About this Cook
Currently unemployed, I spend a lot of time researching food and foodstuffs, and keeping my working wife happy. I also ski, write novels, watch sport and get bored on a treadmill. Stumbled across this site on the 1st Feb. Seems pretty good.
My favorite things to cook
Roast Beef and the trimmings, Fish of various sorts, Soups, Stews, Casseroles, Stir Fry, Chicken Liver Parfait, Salmon Tartare, and on and on and on. Every August, I do a nine course meal for friends (12 of them) with appropriate wines.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family....cook....HA!
My cooking triumphs
My August meals.
My cooking tragedies
Placing my bare hand on a hot ceramic field on the stove. Failed Yorkshire puddings when the gas went off in the middle of cooking a roast dinner. Slicing the top of my finger off when slicing Courgettes (Zucchini) on a mandolin - thus inventing a new dish which I called "Raw meat with red courgettes"

Marzetti(R) Famous Cole Slaw
Would score 5 for simplicity, but frankly this store-bought dressing is fairly ordinary. I can make a tastier dressing from scratch in less than 15 minutes!

Wilted Spinach
For me, when rating, I rate taste as the major factor, presentation as the next, and then lastly consider other factors. Taste = 5. Presentation = 4. Other factors: ease of making = 5, easy availability of ingredients = 5, wife satisfaction level = 5, guest enjoyment = 4.5. Washing up = simple. Total weighted performance = 98% which gives 5 stars. I found fresh young spinach in the wholesalers on Saturday, so bought 2 huge bags (that's a total of over 5 pounds!) and we have been eating it since (it is now Thursday) in various forms. I decided to check out AR recipes for somethng different for last evening meal. Selected this one because I had all the ingredients to hand. My only trouble with this recipe is that it has caused marital strife, as my wife asked me why I had waited so long before doing this for her! We had it as a side with grilled Lamb filets and loved that simple meal.

Slow Cooker Adobo Chicken
Actually 4.5 stars. Someone recommended this to me in a Recipe Buzz exchange and I decided to try it. The vote from my wife afterwards? ... "You can do this again. We can even serve this at one of our guest evenings". That was high praise indeed. I (of course) then did it a second time. It was still good. The third time I tweaked! I added some fresh ginger. And that was a nice little addition so I will be doing that in the future.
