About this Cook
I am married with two children(19 years apart!). I am a former educator with 13 years experience, but I now stay at home with my one year old. I am interested in beginning a baking business using my Grandma's and other traditional Southern recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Desserts Cakes Pies Cookies Fried Chicken (any fried foods really being from the South-just try to fry more healthy) Crockpot recipes
My favorite family cooking traditions
During the holidays, I love to cook my Grandma's pumpkin pie (I actually cut and cook the pumpkin-no canned pumpkin), her oyster dressing, and my aunt's Red Velvet Cake.
My cooking triumphs
I've never won any awards except the praise of my family (all males) when they eat a meal or dish that I have prepared for them. That is reward enough.
My cooking tragedies
Misspelled "birthday" on my younger son's 1st birthday cake. :(

Strawberry Romaine Salad I
I love this salad not only because it's easy to prepare, but I like the contrasting colors of red and green. My husband, who is from Puerto Rico and did not grow up eating "greens" loved it, especially the dressing. I used sunflower seeds instead of the poppy seeds in the dressing. Excellent and cool for a hot Florida day.

Balsamic-Glazed Salmon Fillets
Delicious! I didn't have white wine on hand, so I used margarita mix instead. Worked just fine. Very easy to prepare

Football Cheese Ball
Very simple to make and the shape of a football was a terrific idea. My husband and I both love spicey foods, so the amount of taco seasoning was fine for us. I added my own touches, however. I prefer Colby/Monterey Jack cheese to cheddar. Then I rolled the ball in bacon bits for a bit more flavor. Finally, I placed it on a bed of parsley to give it a football field look. Turned out great! I will definitely use this again.
