Banana Cake VI

Reviewed: Apr. 7, 2014
WOW, this was fantastic! It was deliciously moist and flavorful. And it doesn't even need any frosting. We actually ate almost half of it before I even got a chance to make the frosting. Speaking of the frosting, I used only 2 cups of powdered sugar and it turned out plenty sweet. Also, the cake was in the oven for 1 hour + 40 minutes before it was done. Worth the wait! I won't be using any other banana cake recipe for as long as I live! Thanks for sharing it!

Pesto Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Tasty combination of ingredients! Though a tad on the salty side, this is really big a step up from the classic grilled cheese.

Spinach Shrimp Fettuccine

Reviewed: Apr. 12, 2010
Very tasty! And it makes for a great weeknight dinner because it's so quick to make. My tweaks: I added 1/2 cup of white wine, 1/2 cup of low-sodium chicken broth, 1 tsp of crushed red pepper flakes, and a little more parmesan than what the recipe calls for. I will definitely be making this one again.

White Chocolate Macadamia Nut Cookies III

Reviewed: Mar. 27, 2010
Chewy and delicious! I can see how some people think these cookies turn out too puffy, but the puffiness goes away once the cookies have cooled. The only change I made to the recipe was that I used 1/2 cup butter and 1/2 cup shortening. I'm sure I will be making these cookies for years to come.

Apple Strudel Muffins

Reviewed: Nov. 8, 2009
The strudel didn't turn out like it's supposed to, but these muffins were still a very tasty treat. A great way to use up those apples in the fall. I used Honeycrisp apples.

Slow Cooker Cranberry Pork

Reviewed: Oct. 12, 2009
Great for a fall weeknight family meal. The meat, for the most part, was tender and flavorful. It had the look and texture of pulled pork. I used whole cranberry sauce and creamy french dressing, and I rubbed 2 minced garlic cloves onto the meat before putting it into the slow cooker.

Chantal's New York Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
This is a very good recipe for a basic NY cheesecake. I served this with Ruby Red Strawberry Sauce, which I found on this site -- made it darn near irresistible. I placed the water bath on the rack below the cheesecake and ended up with a 3-inch crack in the middle of the cake, which was totally fine because the strawberry sauce went right on top of it. Next time I'll put the cheesecake directly in the water bath. And because the side of the cake was a bit burnt and dry, I'll try baking it about 8-10 minutes less.

Ruby-Red Strawberry Sauce

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
It was obvious by the consistency that there was cornstarch in it, but it was still very good.

Lobster Bisque

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2009
Pretty good. I added 3 tbs. of tomato paste, doubled the cayenne pepper and Worcestershire sauce, substituted 1 cup of heavy cream for 1 cup of milk, and added about a dozen shrimp. I'll make this one again. Maybe next time I'll add some fresh corn.

Best Big, Fat, Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookie

Reviewed: Nov. 12, 2008
I've been looking for a chocolate-chip cookie recipe like this for years. It's perfect on all counts -- texture, taste, size. I kept the cookies in an airtight container, and they were still chewy a couple days later. This is the chocolate-chip cookie recipe I'll use from now on.

Walnut Pear Salad

Just a so-so salad. The pear got soggy and didn't look very tasty. The dressing was kind of watery. Probably won't be making this again.

Big Soft Ginger Cookies

Reviewed: Nov. 1, 2007
This recipe is wonderful. The cookies turn out soft and chewy, as promised. The only thing I did different was not press down the dough. The unpressed dough results in a more homemade, rustic-looking cookie. Thanks for the recipe! A keeper!

Cream Puffs

I used this cream recipe, but used Alton Brown's recipe for the dough. They turned out fabulous. The cream was light and had the perfect amount of sweetness. The cream puffs were a hit at the party!

Cheddar Bay Biscuits

They're not as fluffy as RL's, but they're fine for serving at home. Next time I will decrease the amount of garlic powder by about half. I'm not a big fan of garlic.
