Blueberry Sour Cream Coffee Cake

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2012
I made the recipe exactly as it's written. It made a delicious extremely moist coffee cake. I was worried that such a heavy cake would stick in the bundt pan, but it didn't. I have a sweet tooth, but the cake was a little too sweet for me. The next time I make it, I'll either half the brown sugar/pecan/cinnamon mixture or leave it out entirely.

Oven Pot Roast

Reviewed: Sep. 25, 2012
Great pot roast! I made a few changes to suit the ingredients I had on hand. After browning the roast, I sauteed some chopped garlic & coarsely chopped onion to the pan & then into the liquid mixture. I didn't have vermouth, so I used red wine - about a cup. (Of course, it changed the flavor of the gravy.) After the roast had been in the oven for an hour, I added about a lb. of baby carrots. At the two-hour mark, I added some thickly slicked mushrooms. The roast, veggies & gravy were all delicious! I served mashed potatoes on the side.

Curried Carrot Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2012
I'd just made chicken stock, so I used that in place of vegetable broth. Although I like curry, I wondered if it might be a little harsh as the only seasoning. So, I substituted Garam Masala. The stick blender worked fine for pureeing the soup. I did add a little kosher salt when I sauteed the onions. (My stock was salt-free. If I'd used canned, I wouldn't have added salt.)

Home-Style Scalloped Potatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 6, 2011
Excellent! Since I was making it just for me, I cut the recipe down quite bit. Instead of cooking it in a pan, I used large custard cups. I cut the cooking time down to about 30 minutes. Turned out great!

Slow Cooker Cranberry Roast

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2011
I followed the recipe exactly, using a 3 lb. chuck roast. This recipe was SO easy, and it made plenty of gravy! For me, the gravy had an overpowering onion flavor. I'll definitely make this recipe again, but I'll try a dry soup mix with a lighter onion flavor next time (like golden onion).

Creamy Carrot With Curry Soup

Reviewed: Jan. 13, 2011
Loved this recipe! I followed the suggestion of other reviews & used 1 1/2 tablespoons of curry powder and 1/2 tablespoon garam marsala. I substituted 1% milk and used homemade chicken broth. The soup probably would have tasted richer and creamer with half-and-half, but it was still delicious with the low fat milk.

Bill's Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
I've tried lots of recipes for blue cheese dressing, and this is my favorite. It's also the fastest to make. Don't go cheap on the blue cheese - the quality matters!

Satiny Chocolate Glaze

Reviewed: Sep. 19, 2010
I've made this recipe twice now - used it to glaze a butter bundt cake both times. It's SO easy to make and only has a few ingredients (all if which I always have on hand). It has a rich chocolate flavor. Because it isn't real sweet, the glaze is fabulous with some coconut sprinkled on top.
