About this Cook
I am married, I have two beautiful daughters. I am currently back in school to become a teacher. I love reading, writing, music, dancing, photography, crocheting and food (of course). I make really good bread, but I can't cut it evenly.
My favorite things to cook
I love to make "family" meals, and love trying new spices. I tend to go for "simple" meals: soups, sandwiches, pasta dishes, but like to try more advanced things occasionally. I just recently found a Japanese cookbook at Goodwill. I can't wait for a chance to try some of it out.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My sister and I make care packages for our aunts, uncles, and grandparents for Christmas. She handles the cookies, and I make the breads. We usually take naps during the process.
My cooking triumphs
I am famous in my family for my bread making, even though it's mostly bread maker bread. I like taking the basic recipes and mixing them up with new things. I also made really good tortellini- chicken "salad."
My cooking tragedies
When I first started cooking, I set my kitchen on fire almost every night. I once tried to make asparagus with garlic butter. I used canned asparagus. It was disgusting. I'm currently learning to make cakes from scratch. I made the first one for my friends birthday, frosting and all. I didn't realize that butter frosting has to be put on a completely cooled cake or it melts everywhere. It was really ugly (but it was tasty).

Cheesy Acorn Squash
Really good. I didn't have any celery, so I used carrots. I bet it would be delicious with celery, too.

Ranch Dressing I
I was making some chicken, bacon, ranch dish one night and ran out of ranch, so I made this and added to what I already had. In that case it was a real life saver. I don't know that I'd use it on salad in place of ranch dressing because it does have a bit more of a dill/veggie dip flavor, but I will probably use this instead of my old veggie dip recipe. We had the leftover dressing with carrots for an after school snack the next day, and it was fantastic that way. 3.5 stars

Creamy Hot Cocoa
I agree with the other reviewers that it was a little sweeter than I expected, but I didn't think it was so sweet that I'll never make it again. I may adjust the sugar levels next time, but it won't be much. I also used evaporated milk instead of half and half because that's what I had, and it turned out fine. Thanks for sharing. This was great for a snow day, and the kids thought it was great.
