My favorite things to cook
I love making anything Italian especially from scratch. My one go to dish is penne a la vodka. I like experimenting and learning new dishes and luckily I have an understanding boyfriend who will just about eat whatever I put on the table.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Growing up my grandfather who was the patriarch of our family was the cook. I grew up watching him with his "mysterious" Chinese recipes which were eventually handed to my sisters, my cousins and me. Once finally figuring out the secrets we started cooking at home a lot more often and started experimenting cooking with my mother. My mother is a instant cook and can whip up a dinner is 30 minutes(I still don't know how she does it) I'm still learning and trying to get my cooking within the hour that I say dinner is going to be ready.
My cooking triumphs
My cooking triumph has to be when I made chicken curry for the first time. Considering that the bf is Indian and I live with my MIL, it was a very scary recipe to make. Luckily, his cousin who is a beginner cook like me lent me her recipe and I followed the instructions step by step and 1 hours later it was made! I actually received a complement from my bf who is usually critical of homemade dishes compared to my MIL. This one was a success and my first official staple and fall back recipe!
My cooking tragedies
I once tried to make a Jamaican jerk chicken without having a food processor. Long story short my blender broke with the smell of basil and pesto which I still cannot stand to this day. I still put the chicken in the oven when a weird smell started coming out of the chicken. I thought it was the garbage but it was the chicken!! :( That night we ordered pizza.
