Love playing guitar, camping, hanging out with my family, running.
My favorite things to cook
Barbecuing and Mexican.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My family is of Hungarian descent and we would do a sutni late spring as a way to welcome in summer. Sutni is grilled jowl bacon on black or rye bread with sliced onions, tomatoes, and radishes. The old ethnic butchers are long gone, so you can't get jowl bacon anymore, but I still look for it. Growing up, sutni meant Memorial Day and Fourth of July. I remember being 12 years old and grilling bacon on a spit over the fire with my dad and grandfather and my grandfather giving me sips of his Pabst Blue Ribbon as I grilled with the men of the family.
My cooking triumphs
Cooking my carne asada recipe for 60 people on a Weber Kettle in the snow for a Cub Scout camping weekend.
My cooking tragedies
Last chili cook-off, I did a recipe that won the Terlingua Chili Championship a few years ago. I came in dead last.
