Crumb Cake II

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2013
Maybe I shouldn't have done this here but didn't want to go buy buttermilk so instead I soured regular milk with lemon, accordingly. The texture came out more like a sponge cake than a crumb cake. The topping looked almost raw even though the cake itself was completely done. I just don't quite get it.

Coffee Frosting

Reviewed: Mar. 14, 2013
Ummm, I would think that there's still enough of the cocoa in there for this to be considered a mocha frosting if not only.

Neapolitan Cookies I

Reviewed: Dec. 14, 2012
They came out too sweet for me. Tried not to overmix, didn't expect that chewy a texture for this type of a cookie. Maybe something else I did.

Strawberry Cake Filling

Reviewed: Dec. 5, 2012
I just quartered the berries and they cooked down some. You can actually taste strawberry in there but not overpoweringly so. Sometimes berry cake fillings near my local bakeries are not very memorable or even that distinguishable.

Grandma Abbey's Christmas Cookies

Reviewed: Oct. 10, 2012
When I added the buttermilk to the flour which the directions implies I got something like a silly putty mixture which doesn't even mix smoothly. Plus based on the other reviews I will try another recipe rather than trying to make this again.

Rick's Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 21, 2010
I was pretty impressed with the reviews and bravely decided to significantly reduce the recipe to the 2 cups confectioners' sugar level while following peoples' suggestion for substituting 1/4 cup of butter in place of half the shortening and reducing the unwhipped cream to a quarter cup, etc. Not sure if it matters but I used a hand mixer. It turned out okay but had sort of a raw kind of taste or something that I was not crazy about. Perhaps reducing the recipe volume that much may have been a factor? Though it is tastier than the "decorator" frostings or icings that I've tried thus far anyway.
