About this Cook
My favorite family cooking traditions
Can't think of specifics but the way my step-mom says it is that we are all way too into food in my family (dad's side). I kind of see it but it's what I know so it seems normal to me.
My cooking tragedies
I was making Shrimp in Tomato Mango Salsa from Gilroy Garlic cookbook. Of course, there was alot of garlic. 1/2 was to be cooked & 1/2 raw. I was in a hurry & it was taking a long time to prep all the garlic so I decided to just put 1/4 in with shrimp so I could get it started and finish up salsa while it cooked. And I put 3/4 of it raw in the salsa. I hadn't had much raw garlic before and didn't realize how hot it was. We barely ate any. My husband who is from India even thought it was too hot. I'll never live it down. And once we (hubby did this one) read recipe using chipoltle in adobo wrong & put way too much in with similar end result. And we were cooking for my Scandinavian food loving family. Oops.

Pork, Pear and Walnut Salad
I forgot to pick up pears so I substituted a medium apple. And had some good aged gouda around that I added at the end. I used the Maple Balsamic dressing others mentioned and made some for marinating too. A plus is that my hubby who is not a big fan of either pork or vinaigrette dressings liked it.
