About this Cook
I love food and everything about it. I also love reading, learning new things and the opera. The best Saturday afternoons involve listening to Live at the Met while sitting in my favorite chair in my sunny kitchen, perusing a good cookbook while simmering a new recipe on the stovetop.
My favorite things to cook
No question about it: leftover odds and ends, thrown together into a new culinary creation.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Dad's weekend crepes, rolled lengthwise after spreading with butter and sugar; baking 17 different varieties of Xmas cookies together every holiday season; and when I was younger, our ephemeral gingerbread house made in Victorian style, complete with stained glass "windows" and porch railings of ribbon candy. From my mom: her amazing lasagna, lemon sole, scalloped potatoes, stuffed pork tenderloin and carrot cake. And finally, from my Grandma T: her buns, cinnamon rolls and pan-fried fish, freshly caught from the lake nearby.
My cooking triumphs
Winning over my now-husband by throwing together a Chicken Marsala - no recipe - the first time I cooked at his place. But somehow new romance adds superb perhaps it wasn't the chicken that was so special after all:)
My cooking tragedies
Almost burning down my house when falling asleep with grilled chicken mole on the stovetop!

Leftover Turkey Spring Rolls with Cranberry Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce
Tried them both ways (baked and deep fried) and given the type of filling, I must say that deep fried is MUCH better! It only take about 1 min per roll, and I could do 2 large rolls at a time without affecting the oil temp too much. Worth the extra calories at this time of year! Save the spring roll wrappers (rice paper) for the type of spring rolls with really fresh, raw ingredients like cucumber, carrot, cilantro. AWESOME dipping sauce = do not change a thing on it!
