About this Cook
I'm a single middle-aged lady. I've lived in the Seattle area for 18 years. Right now I'm unemployed. I was laid off Feb. 2009 and am looking for a job. I am also active(somewhat) on eGullet, where I have the same screen name, and on Epicuriuous, where my screen name is maggie98.
My favorite things to cook
I've been on a diet since January, so I'm not cooking as much as I used to, but I basically still cook the same things--I just eat smaller quantities. I used to cook a lot of desserts and now don't do as much of that except for holidays and special occasions. I guess my main interest is traditional American comfort foods.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Middle American comfort foods.
My cooking triumphs
Lately I have been making very good Beef Bourgonionne. I like to make a batch and eat it for a week. My Caesar salad is also very good.
My cooking tragedies
A lot of them have to do with jams and jellies that don't set up. Marmalade is the worst. I also have a lot of trouble with vanilla custard fillings for things like cream puffs that don't set up and pies such as coconut cream that doesn't set up.

CB's Black Eyed Peas
I simmered this in a stock pot since I don't have a slow cooker. I used Anaheim peppers instead of jalapeno because I had a lot of garden peppers to use up. I also used the equivalent amount of a different type of bacon. I soaked the peas the night before, which may not be necessary but its usually what I do. I would like to try this sometime with red beans or pinto beans.

Chicken Marsala II
This was good. I used a teaspoon or so of fresh minced garlic instead of garlic powder. People who don't like garlic may want less.

Savory Tomato Bread Pudding
I used fresh tomatoes because I had a lot of garden tomatoes. I also used dried basil. Next time I may use something other than raisins, maybe tomatoes,
