I have a confession to make. As the title of this entry may suggest, I have a *slight* obsession with mason jars. That may be a bit of an understatement, but I don't care- they are just so gosh darn adorable! Maybe it's the farmgirl in me, but I cannot
get over how perfect these jars are. I…
peanut butter swirl brownies
they make perfect gifts too! (not just portion sizes!)

I am a university student who should be learning how to cook on a budget, but I love making great recipes too much. I've been cooking for what seems like forever, so it isn't suprising that almost all of my grad, birthday and christmas presents in the past few years have been cooking supplies :)
My favorite things to cook
baked goods, supper, things people like, new things, pretty much anything that someone will eat.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My best cooking memories are from my grandmothers; mom always said that the 'cooking gene' skipped a generation. :) My grandma always made this pastry dish called 'Apple Pan Dowdy', and whenever she brought it over, 'it made our eyes light up and our tummies say Howdy!' Everytime I make it now, it reminds me of her and it makes me smile.
My cooking triumphs
My first major triumph was the ability to make a perfect pie crust (from a recipe and tips from Grandma of course)
My cooking tragedies
Probably the superhero cake I tried making for my sister. It was my first adventure into the fondant world, and I accidently bought lard instead or shortening (it was cheaper :S ). Mistake number one. Mistake number two was being too impatient with the cakes and undercooking them. Needless to say, the finished product had too thick fondant covering a lopsided layer cake that hardly anyone could eat. The only upside was that the superhero symbols on top looked amazing. :) It's no suprise that I haven't touched fondant since.
