Very good. My husband loved it. Very easy to make. Didn't change a thing from the recipe.

Cream Cheese Frosting II

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
WONDERFUL. The only thing I changed was to add some more powdered sugar, as my husband said it should be a little more sweet. I used it to go along with the Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread and everyone at work devoured it!

Downeast Maine Pumpkin Bread

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2008
WONDERFUL. VERY moist. The only things I changed was to substitute 1/2 C applesauce for 1/2 of the oil and used some allspice instead of the ginger as I didn't have any in my pantry. Thank you for the recipe - my husband and everyone at work LOVED it! (used the cream cheese frosting II from this website to go along with it too - was a big hit too)

Waldorf Salad II

Reviewed: Sep. 20, 2008
This was very, very good. We made this for my baby shower and it was a hit! We used the new mayonaise made with olive oil and added in some chicken. We served on croissant sandwiches. Didn't change anything else from the recipe. Will DEFINITELY make again and again and again

Award Winning Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 25, 2005
I've never been able to successfully make chocolate chip cookies. I always overbake them and they come out too crunchy. This recipe solved that. They are the best drop cookie I've ever made. I made a double batch a little over a week ago (to take to work and husband to eat as many as he wanted) and they are still soft. Throw away all other chocolate cookie recipes - this is the only one you'll ever need.

Honey Grilled Shrimp

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2004
Big hit with the husband. I don't like seafood so this review is from him. Great flavor and he liked that I made some more of the honey/worchestershire sauce for him to dip the shrimp onto. I made this for him as his main dish, but he commented that he would rather have had these as a side - perhaps with steak. We try not to repeat meals alot, but he can't wait for me to make this for him again!

Angel Hair with Feta and Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2004
Fantastic. Have made this 3 times for company and it has been a hit every time. My husband loves it (of course, I have to chop the tomatoes up very small for him to eat them) but all the flavors are amazing. I didn't follow the proportions for the garlic, tomatoes, and cilantro - I just added what I thought would be enough (since the recipe seemed to call for too much, in my opinion and from the reviews of others). But, this is definitely in my short list of items to prepare for company! Excellent w/ duck breast!

The Best Steamed Asparagus

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2004
Could have been operator error, but not our favorite way to eat asparagus. Can't really describe the failure with this one...I even tried it twice - the taste and texture just wasn't there. Sorry.

Grandma Johnson's Scones

Reviewed: Jun. 25, 2004
WONDERFUL! Took a chance and made for the in-laws (without testing it first) and it was a beautiful hit! Since then, I've made it once more for my husband and me but divided the dough before adding the fruit....then I added some blueberries to one half of the dough and apples and cinnamon to the other half. Caution - the apples added a BUNCH of liquid to the dough so they took a little longer to bake, but they tasted great - in fact, my husband ate those up before he ate up all the blueberry ones!

Salmon with Dill

Reviewed: Mar. 16, 2004
First, I hate fish - of all kinds. I never eat it, but my husband loves it and after 6 years together, I decided to finally fix a fish dish (and I vowed to try it). My husband eats salmon all the time, so with the reviews, thought this would be the first one to try. Well, it turns out that he only likes smoked salmon - in fact, hates any other salmon. But, as a good husband, he ate his dinner and was VERY impressed: "this is probably the best salmon I've ever had...restaurant quality". The only substitution I made was with the butter...I used the "I can't believe it's not butter" spray on top of the fish instead of regular butter. Oh, I didn't eat the fish...as I was preparing it, I smelled the 'fishy' smell and couldn't even bring myself to prepare a 2nd fillet for myself.

Orange Sauce Chicken

Reviewed: Nov. 4, 2003
Pretty good! I only made the sauce (to go over stir-fried chicken and rice) and it was better than a lot of Chinese restaurants that we've been to. My husband loves orange chicken and he thought this was really good. The sauce didn't thicken up much for me, of course this could be operator error, so I'll see what happens the next time I make it. Even though it wasn't thick, the taste was very good. Perhaps a little sweet, like the others said so maybe I'll reduce the sugar just a little bit next time too.

Cake Mixes from Scratch and Variations

Reviewed: Oct. 23, 2003
We currently live in Switzerland and to buy an American cake mix costs over $6.00 a box. So, what a wonderful surprise this recipe is. I have just made the white cake mix (1/2 recipe since there are only 2 of us) and I couldn't wait for my husband to come home so I tried it. It is wonderfully moist and light (I beat the egg white before adding to the recipe) and it tastes just like the white cake mixes out of the box. I can't believe it was this easy! It did take longer to bake than the recipe called for but this could be due to our oven (not the best) and/or I used a Pampered Chef stone...those usually increase baking time a bit. I also used margarine as shortening is also horribly expensive over here. I will be making the white cake recipe over and over again...and, if the other recipes work as well as this, may never have to buy another box. Janet, you may have put Pillsbury and Betty Crocker out of business! Thank you!

Easy Company Chicken

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2003
Not bad! I agree that the taste of the cream of chicken soup is rather strong in this and the curry flavor didn't come through as much as I'd hoped (also noted by others). My husband really liked it though (served it over fried rice). Next time I'll probably add some paprika and a bit more curry.

Mrs. Sigg's Snickerdoodles

Reviewed: Sep. 5, 2003
Oh my gosh. I love Snickerdoodles and I'm sure that these are the best I have ever, ever, ever had! Beautiful color. Soft, light, buttery taste. You can tell just by looking at the dough that it is going to be a good cookie. The only thing I changed was that I used all butter because I didn't have any shortening. I'm the only one that's tasted these so far, but I know they will be gone before the end of the day. As the others here, I cannot say enough about this recipe. Perhaps the finest cookie.

Best Lemonade Ever

Reviewed: Jul. 22, 2003
I've never made homemade lemonade before. Oh my goodness this is the best stuff. I didn't change a thing from the recipe. It's not hard at all to make - don't be put off by the 4 hour time-frame....most of that is just to chill the liquids to ice-cold temperatures. If you are impatient like me, just use ice cubes in your glass! Thank you, Jo, for a wonderful recipe. I've shared it with all my friends just now over the internet. If my husband doesn't come home soon, he's not going to get to taste this stuff....I'm going to drink it all!

Barbara Bush's Chocolate Chips

Reviewed: Jul. 13, 2003
Very good...I'm in Switzerland and they don't have chocolate chips (can you imagine?...Nestle is only about 40 miles away and they don't have chocolate chips!) so I used a Frigor Dark Chocolate candy bar and chopped it up into tiny pieces. I thought it was just chocolate, but it turns out it also has a creamy hazlenut ingredient. Anyway, the raw dough tasted EXACTLY like Ben & Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream. I baked the cookies too long (a common problem of mine) so they were a little crisp once cooled, but my husband loved them and we think they'll go great with ice cream. Will definitely be making again. Oh - this doesn't make 3 dozen cookies....MAYBE makes 2 dozen...but more like 15 - 18 regular sized cookies.

Cherry Cobbler II

Reviewed: Jun. 27, 2003
Very easy and Very good. I only used about 1/4 C of butter...maybe a little more (hard to tell, Switzerland doesn't have measurements on their butter wrappers so I just lopped off a chunk). I made it for the first time for company and used Blueberry Pie filling and served with a few small scoops of vanilla ice cream. I know Blueberry Pie filling is less sweet than others and I also think the vanilla ice cream helped tone down the sweetness and the buttery taste of the cobbler. Will definitely make it again. Glad I tried it. Even my husband, who doesn't care for "fruit" desserts, said it was very good! Thank you for the recipe!

Quick Bread Mix

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2003
WOW - I'm just starting to learn to make bread and this was WONDERFUL. Moist and flavorful and I just about ate the entire loaf myself! I used about 1 & 1/2 Cups of Sarah's applesause (from this web-site) - 1 as the recipe called for and then the extra 1/2 Cup in place of the oil as some others suggested. That may have been too much because it took FOREVER to bake all the way through (maybe I'll make mini-loaves next time), but my-oh-my so worth the effort of making your own applesause (which I loved and really isn't much effort at all) and making your own applesause bread (which isn't much effort at all either). I will be making this recipe over and over and over again, just mixing up which flavor I use. Can't wait to try banana and carrot! If I had more than 2 thumbs, they'd all be raised!

Famous Butter Chicken

Reviewed: Apr. 2, 2003
Well, this recipe gave me a GREAT starting point - that's why I only rated it 4 stars - I didn't really follow the recipe. I'm in Switzerland so many ingredients are not available here. I used Sesame Crackers for the breading. I used Pampered Chef Lemon Pepper that I brought from the States for seasoning. I marinated the chicken in an egg mixture (egg, milk, fresh garlic, Lemon Pepper Seasoning, and some milk) for about 2 hours. Then, I slit open the breasts and put in some Gruyere cheese. Then I breaded chicken with the crushed sesame crackers (also added some of the Lemon Pepper seasoning and onion salt to the cracker coating) and baked with maybe a Tablespoon of butter for about 30 - 40 minutes. It was wonderful. My fiance loved it and said that it should definitely go in the "make again" category. I'd still like to see some more spice in it. Perhaps some Italian Seasoning or spicy pepper as some others have suggested. Overall - this recipe was a great starter for me - I just took the advice of some others and made it a little differently. The chicken was extremely moist.
