I have been making this recipe forever and it is one of my family favourites. A few simple tweaks will boost up the flavour easily. I usually sear my meat darkly on all sides in a bit of oil after liberally coating it with fresh black pepper. I then add the mushroom soup and onion soup and throw in some thyme (fresh if possible) and garlic powder to taste and a few good dashes of Worcestershire sauce. I let that simmer, (or throw into slow cooker). About a half hour before it is done I add potatoes and carrots (or any veg I have) Once the veg is done I remove meat and veg to a warm platter and boil down the gravy to desired consistency. Delish.
I only gave this 4 stars as, just as written, this would be fairly bland. But it's a great starting point.
