I am a total flower child at heart. I love to be in nature. Just everything about it. I could sit there for hours in a forest and do nothing but just look at everything, up close & in detail. I love to take pictures of everything I see on our nature walks, & of everything I cook. I have a common-law hubby, his name is Peter Henri & he is a year older than I am. We have been together for a little over 4 years & have been living together for over 2. I spend a major percentage of my time cooking, baking, preparing food in the proper ways for storing and freezing, creating my own recipes, looking through my recipe book collection & online recipes.
My favorite things to cook
Any & all forms & types of bread. I really like making international dishes, but I enjoy Oriental dishes the most, all because Oriental food is rather popular where I live. Not just Chinese food, but Vietnamese, Korean, Thai, Japanese, etc. I also enjoy making cakes and popular European pastries & desserts.
Two other things I like to cook are various sauces & home-made pastas
My favorite family cooking traditions
queijadas, caldo verde, swedish meatballs & brown sauce, pan-fried chorizo with friulano cheese & Portuguese buns (breakfast sandwiches), my mom's salsa, blackened chicken & super sassy chicken wings
My cooking triumphs
various cakes & cupcakes (lots of cupcakes as of late! I recently got two types of individual treat pans, one is typically used for tarts, the other cupcakes. I use them for multiple items, including mini pizza buns! I've been making more main dish salads lately, to up my abilities in making my own dressings^_^ I've been doing awesome with frostings as of late, and have learned some valuable tips about getting stable, delicious and not too sweet frostings! Although I am sure I has to still have millions of lessons to learn in frosting
My cooking tragedies
I had an interesting thing happen not long ago actually. I was making home-made caramel for a caramel apple upside down cake, & I completely forgot I was working with boiling sugar! I put the tip of my finger in the sauce (don't worry, I have very clean hands! I wash my hands constantly when I am cooking.) only to have to pull my finger right back out again.
The tip of my finger was burning and in a panicked attempt to get the caramel off I flicked my finger, only for hot bits of the caramel to fly off and a) hit me on my left cheek and b) hit me below my knuckle on one of my left fingers. I now have a small, but still obvious teardrop shaped scar on my face & a weird trianularish scar below my knuckle, all thanks to that cooking mishap & my scrambled brain that day >.
