Bruschetta I

Reviewed: Sep. 7, 2013
I made this for a work bbq so I had to quadruple the recipe. There was none left - they devoured it and were raving about it the whole time! I used 3 diff types of tomatoes: red, orange, and yellow. Herbs fresh my garden makes all the difference :) Also b/c it was a daytime work bbq I used 6 cloves of garlic instead of 8 and it was perfect.

Bob's Habanero Hot Sauce - Liquid Fire

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
This was SO easy to make, with a large yield, for minimal cost. I will never buy hot sauce again! I used what I had on hand, so I ended up substituting peaches for my homemade canned pears, and I used half white vinegar and half balsamic vinegar. It gave the sauce a dark, rich brownish-red colour, as well as a distinct smoky mesquite flavour. Absolutely delicous, and the right amount of heat and flavour too!

Best Spinach Dip Ever

Reviewed: Mar. 2, 2011
I don't like water chestnuts so I used finely diced celery instead and it was an excellent substitution. I also used others' advice as to how to not use leek soup mix b/c I didn't have any, and this dip turned out so awesome everyone loved it. Brought it to our superbowl party and it was a touch down!!!

Veggie Pot Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
I used the no-roll pie crust recipe from this site and I subbed the filling ingredients for a more traditional pie, and what I had on hand - peas & carrots. I also added browned cubed (firm) tofu in place of potatoes. Absolutely fabulous - the "gravy" was delicious - I followed another reviewer's suggestion and used 5 tbsp cornstarch and it was not runny at all - it held its shape perfectly. Thank you for this awesome recipe!!!

Cream Peas

Reviewed: Dec. 24, 2010
I'm vegan so I use soy milk and it works great. However I notice there are no recipes posted for Creamed Peas on Toast, but that is how I grew up eating it. Simply pour the cream peas over 2 pieces of buttered toast, season with salt n pepper, and eat with a knife and a fork. YUMMIES!

Cinnamon Raisin Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
Having never made raisin bread before, and having very little experience making any kind of bread, first looking at this recipe intimidated me. However my loaves turned out beautiful and perfect the 1st time - how exciting! I added cinnamon, nutmeg, and vanilla to my dough for extra flavour and moisture. I also used coconut milk in place of regular milk to make it vegan and extra rich and it worked out great.

Tasty Buns

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
Thank you so much for this wicked recipe! I make all hamburger buns, hot dog buns and all bread at home now and just love it. It is cheaper and much healthier. I agree with the previous comment that it is a little sweet though - I will use less sugar next time.

Batter White Bread

Reviewed: Nov. 20, 2010
This is an excellent recipe and easy to make vegan. Thanks to this recipe we no longer buy bread whatsoever - I experiment with different kinds of flour and spices to liven things up - it saves us money AND saves us the they put in store bought bread.

Harvest Sweet Potato Soup

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
I used coconut milk in order to make this soup vegan - it made it thicker and richer and turned out terrific! I also doubled the recipe and I brought it to Thanksgiving Dinner and everyone loved it - leftovers were gone within 2 days.

Apple Pie I

Reviewed: Oct. 30, 2010
I have made this recipe 4x now, without alterations...except I did what others said and added 2 tbsp of flour to help setting. My brother-in-law loved it so much he made a special request for me to make it for Thanksgiving Dinner - I made 2 of them and they were a huge hit!

Lavender Cookies

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
I did what the other gal mentioned: use 2 tbsp dried lavendar instead of 1 tbsp fresh, I did not use any xtra lavender or sugar for decoration as I found it strong enough already, and I used 2/3 c sugar instead of 1/2 c. Mine were not doughy at all, full of flavour, crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside. Thank u 4 this delightful tea cookie recipe! :)

Strawberry Pie II

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2013
I used one of the reviewer's suggestions of mixing the sugar w/the cornstarch and then boiling the whole thing until translucent. Not only did it set perfectly but the several hrs noted was not necessary. I used flax milk in place of water. I used a store bought graham cracker crust and frozen strawberries and had complete success. Thank you for this recipe! I banged out a delicious pie in like 20 mins. :)

No Roll Pie Crust I

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2010
The 1st time I attempted this recipe was for lemon meringue pie and I found the vegetable oil had too strong a flavour - greasy tasting. I made it again for quiche using melted margarine and it turned out excellent. I also tried making 2 batches for an apple pie, and found that if you chill the dough you are able to roll it out for slicing if you want to make a cross hatch top crust. This is a great vegan pie crust recipe!

Banana Peanut Butter Bread

Reviewed: Aug. 20, 2010
I used a 9 x 13 dark metal pan since I doubled this recipe. I also substituted the walnutes with an extra 2 bananas, which I think ended up slightly overpowering the peanut butter. I added a splash of cinnamon and nutmeg to the mashed bananas as I would for any banana bread, and I added a tsp of vanilla for extra flavour and moisture. Regardless, it turned out perfectly - not too dense, and very moist. We ate the whole pan in 2 days - delicious!

My Own Famous Stuffed Grape Leaves

Reviewed: Sep. 17, 2011
This is a great recipe and I love dolmads, they r delish! However it did take me a very long time to roll them all...considering how awesome they r in restaurants n how widely available they r for purchase, for me living in Vancouver, it is more economical and time saving to buy them already made. But we gobbled them all down really fast! ;)

Carrot Soup

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
I wanted to half this recipe as I live alone, but I didn't have enuff carrots so to make up for the lack I added onions and red peppers. First I roasted the veggies with garlic in olive oil and then pureed with the broth, butter, and seasoning. I garnished with seasoned croutons - really bold flavours! Nice with red wine.

Healthy Garden Salad

Reviewed: Aug. 19, 2012
Like everyone else I too subbed olive oil for grapeseed oil. I also subbed quinoa for black beans, and basil for cilantro, so a pretty different salad I guess! But it was lovely and well-received.

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie

Reviewed: Oct. 1, 2010
The meringue tunred out perfect even on my first try, but I was not able to get the filling to set. After reading other lemon pie recipes I determined that the filling should be chilled for several hours prior to baking with the meringue.
