I've been cooking for years. Mother was from the south, so I can cook southern chicken, gravy, anything fried. But, I try to be somewhat health conscious so I tend to make a lot of fish, chicken and turkey recipes. I'm really a baker at heart and have made the best cinnamon rolls I've ever had (grandma's recipe. mmmm)Cookies are my specialty, but I make a lot of cakes and pies. I'll make about anything if it's THAT GOOD! I know the baking isn't healthy so I don't bake as often as I did when we had children in the house all the time. I haven't been able to do all the things I love to do because of my health. But, I love tennis. I love to play and watch tennis. Then I love to watch football, then baseball! I also love playing games!
My favorite things to cook
Roast, Chicken, Fish, Shrimp, Vegetables, Casserole, Bread, Candy, Cookies, Pies, Cakes (no decorating- that doesn't interest me). I am not a big salad person. I will eat them if someone else prepares them. I don't like to chop much. My husband helps me in the kitchen and he will make salads and chops whatever I need chopped. He also helps when it's a big amount of heavy duty stirring (like fudge).
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother-in-laws roast is good for Christmas and it's my daughter's favorite. My niece is making this year. She's a great cook and I'm certain it will be great!
My cooking triumphs
German Chocolate Cake (my aunt who was a caterer said it's the best she ever tasted). Beef Stroganoff - my mother-in-law bragged on it to her co-workers all the time (they must have hated me) and it was what she and my father-in-law asked for their birthdays along with the German Chocolate Cake. They also loved my French Onion Soup. The grandkids love my Brownies and Lemon Bars! They are good!
My cooking tragedies
When we first got married we had an apt with an electric stove. I didn't know how to cook on one of those- so I burned the fried chicken. I cried and my husband pulled off the skin and ate it anyway. I've messed up gravy and had to start over. But, I just go with the flow. If something doesn't turn out (and if you cook that will happen from time to time) you just toss it out if it's inedible and go out to eat! LOL!!!!! That's happened a few times over the years. Oh, also early on I made Jambalaya and the recipe didn't look like it would make much (I didn't realize that rice expands!) So I quadrupled the recipe. I could have fed the whole town! LOL! It was good though!
