Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Gravy

Reviewed: Jun. 7, 2002
What great fried chicken.. I did modify it a bit.. I soaked the chicken in buttermilk for 6hrs, and added 1/2 cup cornstarch to the flour mixture.. the cornstarch keeps it crispy.. and after frying the chicken only until it was brown, but not fully cooked did I drain the chicken on a rack until all the chicken was done, then put it in the oven with the rack on top of a cookie sheet covered with foil.. baked it for 45 min.. the chicken was so tender and crispy.. even crispy warming it in the oven the next day and cleanup was easy.. everyone said it was the best fried chicken they had ever eaten...

Aunty Pasto's Seafood Lasagna

Reviewed: Feb. 16, 2002
EXCELLENT TASTE...I used the uncooked lasagna noodles they have out now because everyone said it was on the soupy side and it helped a little, but I think I will use ricotta cheese next time and add an additional layer of noodles on it.. they will probably help, also an additional egg will bind it up more.. but the taste was out of this world..and will definately make it again...

Cranberry Walnut Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 12, 2002
This has to be the most delicious bread that I have made.. it did call for more flour.. I used an additional 1/3 cup flour and the yeast, since I use bread machine yeast was 1 1/2 tsp.. but this 1 1/2 lb loaf went up a little bit above the top of the pan.. it was beautiful, chewy, and because of the buttermilk it made the cranberries slightly tart and I used orange blossom honey and it had the most fabulous flavor all together.. thanks its a keeper.. and this bread was wonderful with ham on it..

Double Layer Pumpkin Cheesecake

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2002
This recipe is wonderful and easy to make.. I wanted a swirl in the cheesecake, so I took 1/2 cup of the cheesecake mixture and saved it for the swirl on top.. it was beautiful and if you can make your own graham cracker crust, please do it.. it makes a difference .. I did bake it 5 min longer than it said and it was perfect..

Crusty Potato Bread

Reviewed: Jan. 9, 2002
WHAT A BREAD!!! This is the most fabulous bread I have tasted.. it's very moist inside and the inside has a slight texture of sourdough but not sour..a little chewy, that makes wonderful sandwiches.. and the crust is crunchy.. it is my favorite white bread ever.. I needed to use an additional 2 tbs of water over the 1 1/4 cups of water.. and also used the seasoned butter/herb potato flakes..only because it was all I had available.... everyone enjoy....

Impossible Pumpkin Pie

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2001
what an easy pie to make.. this was delicious and fun to watch bake.. everyone loved the fact that there was no crust.. after adding the whipped cream who needed the extra crust to make you fuller... I will make this pie again for sure, it had the right taste and texture.. I used 3 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice and it was perfect..

Praline Sweet Potatoes

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2001
This was the most amazing sweet potato recipe I have ever eaten..everyone was licking their plates.. I couldn't keep my daughter out of the pan.. she had a spoon in her hands the whole time and when you would turn around she was eating it... so if you are having many people to dinner, you better make two of these recipes.. when I bought my potatoes I made sure I got all the same size.. then I cooked one in the microwave to see how much potatoe I would get.. it yields 1/2 cup so then I put 7 sweet potatoes in a 9x12 pan in a 400 degree oven for 1 1/2 hrs until they were well done then took out all the sweet potatoe with a spoon.. it was exactly 4 cups.. I used 1/3 cup sugar and 1/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar because I like the flavor of brown sugar in sweet potatoes and added 1/2 tsp salt to the mixture, it brings out more of the flavor.. I also baked it an additional 10 min.. all ovens are different.. I was told I have to make another one today for the left over turkey...

Turkey in a Smoker

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2001
This was a wonderful tasting smoked turkey.. I used a 12# turkey, soaked it in a brine solution of 1 1/2 cups salted water using kosher salt, added some herbs also to the solution soaking it for 6 hrs completely covered with iced water... I did everything the recipe called for but the next time I make this turkey I will only put one can of cola inside this size turkey... there was to much liquid in my pan and I had to remove some of it while the turkey smoked... also it took my 12 pounder 11 hrs in my electric smoker to cook.. it was very moist and flavorful... everyone said it was the best smoked turkey they ever ate

Apple Pie by Grandma Ople

Reviewed: Nov. 23, 2001
This was one of the best apple pies I have ever made or tasted... I read all the reviews before making it and decided to add some apple pie spice to it and put the apples in a bowl, add the syrup to the apples and then place them in the pie shell, and reserve a small amount of syrup for the top shell.. I made 2 of these pies, one I used the apple pie spice and the other I made it exactly as the recipe called for.. both were delicious, however the pie with the spice was not as enjoyable to me as the one without it.. so grandma came thru in the end with a prize winning recipe just as written.. 5 stars plus!!
