Last Minute Mushrooms

Reviewed: May 22, 2011
These were pretty good.... I didn't have any wine which is what I usually use for mushrooms... glad to see all I need is a little butter... PS. I used chives as well...

King Crab Appetizers

Not the biggest hit. BF didn't like and even the vultures at work didn't gobble them up... Followed the recipe though....

Feta and Bacon Pasta Sauce

Reviewed: May 21, 2011
Didn't use the bacon because that just sounded gross.... just made it into a cream sauce, was ok but the feta didn't completely melt and hardened quickly...

Everyone LOVED this.... added misc. spices and ground beef... half of the potatoes were already boiled (left overs from the day before) and the other half I boiled in chicken broth just for this..... SUPER YUMMY!

Sarah's Banana Bread Muffins

Reviewed: May 21, 2011
Didn't have nuts but I've made this twice without them. The first time I followed the recipe exactly and it turned out great...the second time I added a little nutmeg and cinnamon and it turned out even better YUM! The only "bad" thing about this recipe is the time is totally off.... check it after 20 like everyone else says...

Coleslaw

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
I hate cabbage but I thought this was pretty good. I gave some to a friend and she said it was ok but preferred the mayo kind.... If I get more cabbage I'll probably try this again...

Carrot Cookies

Reviewed: Apr. 20, 2011
Fantastic cookies.... I substituted butter for shortening because that is my preference. I also lowered the temp to 350 and just kept an eye out for when the edges browned. I may try adding more carrot next time because the carrot kind of "melted" into the dough and there wasn't much there. I'm thinking more carrot wouldn't be a bad thing and would make them a bit healthier.

Poppy Seed Muffins

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2011
Not sure what I really think of theses.... Part of the problem is that I over mixed (not sure HOW since I didn't mix very much what whatever) The other problem is that they just don't look done. Oh sure they have the right texture but the tops are SO not brown. If I let them stay in for longer they would have been dry. Did the toothpick test. OTHER problem is that they were greasy. Never had a problem with that before. I think it was probably the HUGE amount of oil in the recipe. Not trying this one again. Will try to make the glaze (hoping to give them color) but not using this again. UPDATE: Against MY judgement I'm giving it an extra star. I liked the recipes from my three books but my boyfriend really prefers this one. He liked them BECAUSE they weren't brown. I still hate the greasiness so I'm going to try making him poppyseed cupcakes because they don't have a crust and are moist without being greasy :)

Hot Buttered Rum Batter

Reviewed: Dec. 21, 2010
This recipe is AMAZING!! You can change it up simply by using a different type of vanilla ice cream (french, vanilla bean etc...) or adding a bit of pure vanilla to give it a richer flavor. The recipe is very versatile. Use it in coffee, with hot water or in cider for starters. I've used rum (spiced IS best) Baileys Irish Cream, coffee and whiskey and yes, even plain ;) This recipe is simply.....NUUUUMMMMY! I made a triple batch and am giving it away in jars for Christmas. THANK YOU SHERIMA1!!!!

Cookie Jar Sugar Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 10, 2010
You are not supposed to bake it yourself! You put the dry ingredients in a jar and give the jar as a gift! That is why all if the ingredients are not in one spot... they are directions for the person you give it to!

Pecan Pumpkin Biscuits

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
This is the BEST pumpkin recipe I've found this season. THE BEST. I usually add more pecans (LOVE pecans) and don't toast them (I'm sure they'd be better after toasting but I'm lazy) FAN-FRICKEN-TASTIC. Thanks Connie!!!!

Pecan Pie Bars II

Reviewed: Nov. 24, 2010
Didn't have enough of the bottom layer to spread over the cookie sheet so i transplanted it to a smaller pan figuring I'd just bake it a little longer because it was thicker. The outer edges came out burt but the middle was fine. Maybe if I double the recipe and use a regular pan at the same time/temp it would have been better, not sure.... BUT I did manage to cut away the outer layer to sample a few bites and it TASTED really good....

Christmas Morning Popovers

Reviewed: Nov. 10, 2010
I've never had popovers before.... would have rated them four stars but for two things. First off I had to take them out early because after putting them in the oven for 15 mins at 450 they did not need nearly 20 mins at 350. I think I pulled them out after half the time because they looked a little overdone (tasted ok though...). The other reason is quite simply my fault (I think...)... I put them in paper muffin cups and they stuck horribly and I was only able to eat the part that had puffed over the paper. Maybe if I had sprayed it with pam? I don't know. When I make cupcakes with paper I've never needed to do that....I thought these would be the same....

Orange Chicken Stir Fry

Reviewed: Oct. 27, 2010
Loved this recipe! Thought the taste was wonderful and did not find the soy sauce overpowering like some of the reviews said. My friend suggested browning the chicken a little more or breading it. Also I used cornstarch like some reviewers said (1 tab) but I like a thicker sauce so I think next time I'll just add flour (I'm used to using flour, not corn starch) and just add more until it gets to my liking. The only other thing was that I used lemon zest instead of orange zest. It's what i had on hand and it tasted fine. :)

Lemon Scones

Reviewed: Sep. 29, 2010
Made a few changes: I added a little lemon juice as recommended but I think I may have used a little more then I should have. It tasted fine but, I don't know if this is related at all, it took a lot longer to cook. I guess that could have been my oven though. I used regular milk because i didn't have the vinegar on hand. Also I made what is probably a beginners mistake.... I put the glaze on right away and it soaked through and made it a little TOO moist. Good thing I made a double batch : d
