Irish Shepherd's Pie

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2013
It was ok, not great. Will make again with the following changes: ground beef, beef stock instead of water, tomato sauce instead of ketchup, no cinnamon, less rosemary. More cheese inside of potatoes and lots on top before baking.

Haluski - Cabbage and Noodles

Reviewed: Apr. 22, 2012
We love Haluski, altought I've never made it from "scratch" before. I've always bought it pre-made, frozen. So this was a first, this is a perfect base recipe but we like a little more flavor. MY TIP: Add a meat, like bacon or kielbaska- brown the meat first, set meat aside, then add the butter, onions...and so forth, into the meat drippings. Follow the recipe from there. Lastly chop up the meat into tiny pieces and add to the noodles. Also, a little sprinkling of garlic powder adds another flavor layer. Consider adding a box of frozen pierogi's at the very end and cook app 10 minutes longer till hot in the center. Still very simple and very good.

Party Pinwheels

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
I used turkey in some of mine for a little extra bulk and flavor, and even though the crowd loved them I think next time a little shredded cheese and more veggies (brocolli, cauliflower, cucumber...) will be even better.Very good- chilling them is a must!

Mini Pineapple Upside-Down Cakes

Reviewed: Sep. 14, 2011
mmmm, Just like Mom used to make, only in mini's. the serving portion is nice but next time I'm gonna try the larger texas size for an entire pineapple ring to fit. I only used 1 20 oz can and cut them up into pieces or small chunks. When they first come out ot the oven, be careful turning the pan over that upir cakes don't spill out- the topping is juice unitl it sets. Maybe use a knife around the edges, then flip and let rest without removing pan for for at least 5 minutes. Perfect crowd pleaser.

Jelly Roll

Reviewed: Nov. 9, 2010
This recipe is perfect. If you have problems with breaking there are a few things you need to check or be aware of: 1. Using cake flour or a low gluten flour is best. If this is not available, add corn starch (1/3 corn starch to 2/3 flour). High gluten flour is good for breads and pizza dough, not jelly rolls. 2. Be sure you are not OVERBAKING the cake, this will dry it out and cause it to break. Try the lower end of the baking time first. Overbaking is the most common issue. 3. Roll the cake while still warm, if you wait too long after removing it from the oven it will break. If you do experience breaking while rolling, do not throw away your cake, cut it into petite fours and fill them as normal. You can salvage what you have and make it useable and still yummy.

Excellent, these are my family's favorite cookies but they are in limited supply to purchase locally- thank you for sharing; now I can make them anytime we get the craving! I did follow the "less sugar" variation and they're perfect.

Deer Chop Hurry

Reviewed: May 3, 2010
We like deer meat; I made this for the first time and we all think it is EXCELLENT! I didn't brown the chops, just put them in a covered dish in the oven for about 2 1/2 hours; I did add a few tablespoons of butter. So very tender and flavorful.
