Peanut Butter Temptations II

Reviewed: Apr. 9, 2008
These were good.... just not spectacular. I found the cookie part a little bland. It was also really hard to get the cookies out of the muffin pan.

Allspice Cream Cheese Frosting

Reviewed: Apr. 4, 2008
Giving this 4 stars for the idea. My standard cream cheese frosting doesn't have milk, and uses a 8 oz package of cream cheese. But I love the idea of putting allspice, or other spices into the frosting. It's great on a spice cake!

Sausage Barley Soup

Reviewed: Mar. 26, 2008
The flavor on this recipe was very good. The only change I would make in the future would be too add more liquid, which is not usually the case with slow cooker recipes. I thought 1 can was not enough, but was hoping more liquid would come from the spinach. Next time I'll add another cup or so at least of chicken broth.

Baked Teriyaki Chicken

Reviewed: Mar. 17, 2008
This was good - my husband said it was pretty good and he isn't a huge fan of chicken. I had to add Rice Wine Vinegar instead of Red Wine since I was out.

Smothered Beef Short Ribs

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2008
This was ok. It just wasn't spectacular. I made it in a slow cooker, so I omitted one box of broth and there was still a ton of liquid. I served it over noodles. No other changes. Good, just not great and I will be looking for other short rib recipes.

Fish Tacos

Reviewed: Feb. 25, 2008
I've made this twice now. The first time I made it I bought lettuce instead of cabbage, and my husband was dejected! We lived in San Diego for 6 years and this, so he tells me, is very close. But you have to have the cabbage and the sauce! The cayenne is way too much for me, and I didn't put in any jalapenos. I don't like seafood that much but I do like these tacos and will make them again.

Apple Orchard Punch

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2008
I just used this for a mini-tea that I put on, and thought it was very good. My husband liked it as well. I forgot to float apple slices in it, but will remember that for next time. Thanks!

Slow Cooker Carnitas

Reviewed: Feb. 14, 2008
The flavor on this was very good. I think I'm still going to look for other recipes though because the carnitas we are looking for is fried at some point. I'll probably still use this occasionally as a convenient recipe in a slow cooker.

Luscious Spinach Artichoke Dip

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
I have made this recipe numerous times over the last few years. My husband loves it, and sometimes we eat it as our meal by itself. He thinks it is better than most restaurant versions. I usually put in an entire box of spinach, and whatever grated cheese I have on hand which is generally Parmasean or an Italian mix. I also don't measure out the garlic, just mince an entire clove (or two!). This recipe is definitely a permanent one in my collection.

Cocktail Meatballs

Reviewed: Jan. 21, 2008
This recipe was pretty good. I was a little afraid of the taste, but it was ok. The meatballs were all eaten, which is a good sign. I didn't love the flavor though, so I will probably look for another recipe. It was good, just not great. Very easy to put together though, I tried to find frozen meatballs but couldn't. That would have made it even easier!

Fudge Chunk Brownies

Reviewed: Jan. 15, 2008
This was very good, I am definitely more of a fudge brownie person. I used walnuts instead as my husband doesn't care for pecans. I also took the other reviewers suggestions to add cocoa, although it probably isn't necessary. I live in Denver so the cooking time is at least 8+ minutes longer, and even then it required a fork. I might tweak this a bit to work for high altitude, but other than that a very good simple recipe!

Clone of a Cinnabon

Reviewed: Jan. 14, 2008
This was good - I made it for my husband because his favorite part is the cream cheese icing. My first attempt I forgot to put in the eggs until after the flour - so I had to ditch that batch, but that wasn't the recipes fault! The second time turned out great, I found it a little hard to roll out but they still turned out good.

I thought this was ok, not bad, but not what I was looking for as far as taste and texture.

Annie's Fruit Salsa and Cinnamon Chips

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I've made this recipe a few times and it makes a lovely presentation, although it does get a little too juicy because of the sugar. I've decreased that and played around with the fruit. Everyone has loved the cinnamon chips and this recipe definitely stays in my box for future events.

Chicken and Broccoli Braid

I've made this recipe a couple of times for special events and it makes a lovely and impressive presentation. I didn't make any changes to the recipe and it was well received.

Alyson's Broccoli Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I make this exactly as written and we love it! I don't like raisins, but my husband doesn't allow me to make this without them, so I just eat around them. Definiely a keeper!

Pumpkin Cheesecake in a Gingersnap Crust

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I've made this a few times now and I love this concept. I've made it with both pecans and hazelnuts. I double the spices, and have also used fresh pumpkin which gives it such a different texture and flavor. I make this as opposed to pumpkin pie, and I like this much better. Still experimenting with the crust, as it does get soggy, but I think this recipe is definitely a keeper.

Monkey Bread I

Reviewed: Nov. 28, 2007
I've made this a couple of times now, both with very positive feedback. The only changes I made is to use butter, as margarine does not exist in my house, and to omit the raisins as I don't care for them. I love the cinnamon/sugar mixture however and this definitely stays in my recipe box!

Alison's Slow Cooker Vegetable Beef Soup

Reviewed: Sep. 26, 2007
I thought this was ok. I changed it by using 2 cups of beef broth and 1.5 tsp of salt. I just couldn't see using so many bouillon cubes, and I usually just use broth anyway. The veggies were a little mushy after cooking for 8 hours, and I just didn't love the flavor over all. I think in the future, I will use fresh vegetables and maybe omit the tomatoes. But won't use this recipe again.

Old Fashioned Coconut Cream Pie

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2007
This was very well received. It was somewhat overshadowed by the chocolate and peanut butter pie I also made for the event I took it to, but it was well liked (I didn't try it as I don't like coconut). I substituted 1.5 cups of coconut milk and cornstarch as suggested and used fresh whipped cream. It does take quite a long time to boil at a low flame, but I think it's worth it.
