About this Cook
I love to cook, particularly bake. I get the urge to bake something every couple of weeks or so. I'll admit though that I'm not that great at coming up with recipe ideas myself, but I'm pretty good at using other ideas and modifying them for myself. I have also found that things turn out better when I measure, although I'm getting there on estimating amounts.
My favorite things to cook
My husband jokes that he married me for my chocolate chip cookies so that is on the top of the list. I love to bake and try new ingredients and dishes.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Beyond the chocolate chip cookies..... Growing up my family had a special breakfast meal- biscuits, hard-boiled eggs, and a white sauce with ground beef. I love to make that meal now, and find new traditions with my husband. He requests my guacamole, spinach-artichoke dip, pork tendorloin, etc.
My cooking triumphs
I've taken cake decorating classes so I've been happy when my efforts are appreciated in that area. I've also hosted a couple of teas and bridal/baby showers that were commented on for weeks after, which is worth all of the work that goes into them.
My cooking tragedies
I attempted to make homemade rye rolls around Thanksgiving, I had just moved to Denver from San Diego and was experiencing my first "cold spell"- I don't think I had the rolls in a warm enough place and also didn't adjust for high altitude. Let's just say they were pretty hard.

"Zuccotto" Cupcakes
Really good recipe - although I likely won't use raspberries in the filling going forward and find something else. But these were loved otherwise, my husband ate 4 before 8 am! Will make it again, but it its intensive and needs a lot of time to prep and complete.

Bratwurst, Potato and Cabbage Soup
Good, I'll definitely make again. I used broth instead of water and did not have swiss cheese, so just omitted that step. It took a while to thicken up, so I might adjust that in the future, but overall was really good. Thanks for the recipe.

Pumpkin Ginger Cupcakes
Good, especially liked the use of crystallized ginger. Made this for my friend at work who loves ginger stuff for his birthday. Very well received. I made a spice cream cheese frosting along with it. Will stay in my recipe box.
