Instant Pistachio Salad

Reviewed: Nov. 26, 2010
Triple the recipe for my family... they loved it. Added can of drained mandarine oranges , coconut flakes and some maraschino cherries. Would love to add nuts, but no one else likes them.

Big hit with family. First time I ever made cranberry sauce. Made it the day befor so it was chilled and thickened.

Loved it... used Polska Kielbasa instead of ham and small red potatoes.

Slovak Stuffed Cabbage

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2004
This recipe was pretty average. It just didn't have a lot of flavor and was way too watery. I'll be going back to my old cabbage rolls recipe.

Italian Meatball Sandwich Casserole

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2003
I cheated and used frozen meatballs from the grocery store. The kids didn't like the cream cheese, although I thought it added a nice flavor.

OH MY GOSH... very yummy. Added a little extra garlic just b/c my family loves garlic and doubled the amount of mozzarella cheese. Served with warm bread and was a huge hit!!

Coconut Ambrosia Salad

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2003
EVERYONE LOVED THIS!! Took suggestions and substituted sour cream for milk; reduced coconut to 1 1/4 cups; added Pistachio instant pudding to whipped topping; and added 1 to 1 1/2 cups of slices almonds. Definitely will add this to our holiday menu.

Cream Puffs

Reviewed: May 3, 2003
TEN STARS!! Excellent results. I used lemon pudding and dusted with powdered sugar for half the batch, ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL; and used coconut cream pudding and white choc chips melted with a touch of vegetable oil for the other half... AWESOME. The use of a pastry bag to pipe the filling worked like a charm. Honestly, they look like they came from a bakery and this was my first attempt ever at cream puffs... you won't be sorry. DEFINITELY WILL MAKE THIS AGAIN AND AGAIN!!!

Rich Chocolate Chip Toffee Bars

Reviewed: May 2, 2003
THE MOST REQUESTED DESSERT RECIPE EVER and hands down all-time family favorite. I've made bunches and bunches of times and they freeze well, too!! This one is dangerous for me to have in the freezer, however, because I crave them just knowing in they're available. My husband is not a sweet eater, but he LOVES these and cannot resist.

Magic Marshmallow Puffs

Reviewed: May 2, 2003
Fun and easy recipe... definitely one of the kids favorites. It's so good that we rarely use the glaze because they're usually consumed right out of the oven... no one wants to wait. They're best while still warm.

Mary Oppenhiemer's Butter Cake

Reviewed: Sep. 23, 2002
I don't know if I did something wrong because it had such high marks, but my family didn't like this one. It was really heavy, like a brick. The frosting was also too much - maybe I beat it too long. The recipe doesn't indicate how long to beat it. I was disappointed at the family gathering when we finally cut into this one.

Banoffee

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2001
I must admit that I used Cool Whip for the topping instead of real whipping cream and it still tasted great (it was the fourth pie I made for Christmas so I needed to hurry things up a bit). I also used two cans of sweetened condensed milk instead of one. If you do this, use three of four bananas instead of two. The bananas add a fabulous flavor.

Apple Crumble Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 27, 2001
As a previous review mentioned, I also used a deep dish pie tin and had too much liquid. Otherwise, the pie was very good.

Crispy Coconut Chicken Fingers

Reviewed: Dec. 17, 2001
I thought these were very tasty, but not as crispy as I would have liked. The recipe is a keeper, however, next time I'll put them under the broiler for the final couple of minutes.

These are very tasty, but I had to bake them for about 25 to 30 minutes to crisp the bacon.

Chicken Jerusalem II

Reviewed: Dec. 2, 2001
This is a delicious way to make chicken. I doubled the amount of artichoke hearts and used the marinated kind. I also included the marinate sauce with the chicken stock for the sauce. I also added cornstarch to the final stages of cooking the sauce to thicken it us.

Baked Corn I

Reviewed: Dec. 1, 2001
I have been making this recipe for several years and it is always a winner! I do add 1/4 cup sugar to my recipe, however, just to make it a little sweeter. It is very moist and delicious.
