About this Cook
I am an American girl newly married to an English man living in the UK. I am enjoying not only eating and learning to cook the foods my husband grew up eating but also the challenge of cooking my American dishes as authentically as possible for him. I think it's a great way to really learn about each other. Though I do most of the cooking in the house my husband loves to join me and help out and once in awhile gives me a break and cooks for me.
My favorite things to cook
I love to cook anything new!
My favorite family cooking traditions
I came from a multi-cultural family and am now married to an English man so my cooking traditions are rich in culture. I grew up watching my Mexican grandma roll out fresh tortillas and grinding spices with her mocajete. I also grew up watching my anglo grandmother make the most amazing pies and preserves, Sunday ham baked in a coca cola glaze in a brown paper bag. Since I married, I have had the privilege of learning traditional British cooking from my mother in law. Sadly, all of my biggest influences have since passed but I have their cookbooks and secrets to share with the next generation.

Bread Pudding II
I have never been able to successfully make bread pudding until I tried this recipe. It is very quick and easy to whip up using whatever leftover bakery bread. I sometimes add less sugar and a drizzle of cream on top before I bake but always add the raisins. Thank you for the recipe. I will be passing this one down!

Adrienne's Cucumber Salad
Really great, flexible recipe. I followed some of the other suggestions of reducing some of the sugar and salting the cucumbers before dressing them with the vinegar mixture. I also added some crushed red pepper for a nice sweet and sour kick!

Hamburger Steak with Onions and Gravy
Really simple and tasty recipe. I followed the ingredient list exactly with the exception of using fresh onions and garlic rather than dried. I really think the grated onion made the steaks nice and moist while providing loads of flavor. I think the sherry was a nice touch. YUM!
