About this Cook
I love the creativity and spontaneity of changing an old classic recipe into something new and hip. I also try to slip vegetables and fresh fruits into everything...things should taste good AND be good for you! The extra time it takes to cook things slowly or from scratch allows me to connect with people and enjoy their company. It is a wonderful feeling to share the experience of cooking along with the experience of eating!
My favorite things to cook
Whole chicken Gravies with homemade stock Stuffed chicken breasts Salmon Salads Salad dressing
My favorite family cooking traditions
I started cooking on my own when I was aunt cooked a couple different recipes and enjoyed socializing in the kitchen while cooking. I want to start my own cooking traditions based on fresh, local, attractive and nutrient rich ingredients!
My cooking triumphs
Thanksgiving 2010- Cooked for 8 people and tried out a lentil-rice stuffing for the first time. Everything was perfect...especially the mushroom gravy made from turkey drippings.
My cooking tragedies
Last night...I thought I was saving time by getting the preformed patties. They were dry, hard, and required a lot of condiments to get down. I guess its an excuse to drink more wine :-)

Fava Bean Breakfast Spread
Fava beans are in season right now in southern California so I had to test this out with fresh favas! And fresh, rich and delicious it is! I also used canned diced tomatoes instead of fresh and cooked it a bit longer so the flavors could meld. The aroma is sure to peak the curiosity of your more "meat and potato" type of friends too.

Chicken Breasts in Caper Cream Sauce
This was so quick, easy and delicious. I used a can of cream of mushroom soup (and a little water) instead of the cream and whisked it. Then chopped up the cooked and seasoned chicken, put it in the sauce and served over rice.

Garlic Delicata
This was SIMPLE and delicious. I mixed the oil, garlic and parsley in a bowl and poured it over a Cornish game hen stuffing spears of the squash inside the hen. I also sprinkled the dish with sea salt before putting in the oven at 350 degrees for a little over an hour. My squash was fresh from the farm so this recipe allowed the unique flavor to come through as well as the richness of the hen.
