When I moved to the US, I was very disappointed to not be able to find freshly cut meat. Everything was frozen! In Bangladesh, and most places in India as well, meat is cut and sold fresh-you would rarely find frozen meat, and if you do-it is not going
to be of good quality. You can actually…
Nayeem and Rubaiyata selling chickens on streets of Dhaka
Chickens being sold
meat shop selling beaf
Freshly cut beef chunks
a cow being transferred within Dhaka...
A 1000 characters to describe me-sounds daunting! I think I am very serious about life, but at times I have my silly moments. I am different with different people, so it is kind of difficult for me to pinpoint and say, I am this and that. In essence, I love eating, feeling the spices and sauces in my mouth. A spoonful of food is a little piece of heaven for me. I love watching food cook, especially when you can smell the spices and the warm steam comes off. I want to travel a lot, and talk with people and listen to their stories. I think the human potential is our greatest asset, we can learn so much by learning about each others' stories. So that's a little about me, and if you want to know more about me, then follow me here on Allrecipes!
My favorite things to cook
I love cooking lentil grain soup because I love its thick gravy. Its the best when you add in a mixture of lentils and some dry chillies.
I also like marinading and frying chicken.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Bengali Desserts ( Pitha and Firni): Patishapta Pitha, Bhapa Pitha and Shujir Firni
Dry Fish ( Shutki)
Bhortha ( kind of like potato mash, but you can make the mash out of practically ANYTHING-including fish, meat and vegetables)
My cooking triumphs
My cooking tragedies
Chocolate cake :( SIGH- I will have to try again AND again.
Shrimp curry-the shrimps overcooked and I messed up the spices.
