Chocolate Pound Cake III

Reviewed: Jan. 6, 2007
I don't write many reviews, BUT...I thought I had the best choco pound cake recipe and I was wrong. This is the absolute best cake I've ever eaten. I put the satiny glaze recipe on it and yum... My husband the non desert eater has eaten more of it than any cake I've ever made. Oh, and I'm diabetic so I've made it twice with splenda, 2 c. white and 1 c. brown sugar splenda and I think he likes that even better. Thanks.

Fried Okra

Reviewed: Oct. 16, 2003
i have tried before to fry okra and by the time you got your hands in the egg and flour, there wasn't much left on the okra. i used the suggestion from one of the reviews and used milk, then did half and half flour and meal. little skeptical because the in laws were having dinner with us. i made a whole lot and i think we all would have eaten more had it been there. thanks

Uncooked Banana Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 11, 2003
was making a "fresh strawberry cake" (also on this site and delicious) and mess up my cool whip icing (also on this site). anyway, i had already used the vanilla pudding and milk and cool whip (which was where i messed up the icing. anyway, i looked up banana pudding and needed to use some sour cream up. i had made 2 other ones from here that were very good, but my son and husband agreed, this is the best. i also forgot it was in the frig. until 2 or 3 days later and it was as good as it was when i made it. very quick and easy and good for a save when you mess up. :-) thanks.

Cool Whipped Frosting

Reviewed: Jul. 5, 2003
i don't usually rate things, but this is great. my friends mother wanted a white cake with lemon filling and coolwhip topping. i experimented on july 4th party. it was a big hit. i'm going to put lemon pudding next time to compliment the "lemon filling" and "creamy white layers" on this site. i also made mine the night before and it seemed the frosting softened (not make it soggy, just more moist.) my cake which was great because i overcooked it just a little and before fridge tasted a little tough. everyone loved it and i'm looking forward to making it again. (just have to not eat too much frosting before i get it on the cake. :-) thanks

New Year's Day Black-Eyed Peas

Reviewed: Jan. 1, 2003
we had these for new year's dinner tonite. i usually made the plain old tradition peas, but my mother in law is on a strange diet due to medicine she's on, so she can't eat cured or smoked meat. (so much for ham seasonng) i saw this and thought it would be good since i couldn't use seasoning and left off the ham. it reminded me of something i'd had. there is a restaurant that has black eye pea soup and that was it. i did change the recipe to make it tastier. i added celery, bell pepper, jalapeno and 2 cans of tomatoes. (i didn't bother to crush them) also a little mixed pepper and cayenne. it was great. thanks.

Pepper Pot Soup II

Reviewed: Dec. 11, 2002
the taste was okay, needed a little spicing up. the big problem was it needed twice as much water and extra wine. the pepper and succotoush needed to go in earlier. a lot earlier. i thought i was making an 1.5 hour soup and it's now 2 hours later and it's not done. since it had to cook so long the pasta is mush. i probly won't try this again unless you try to improve it some. sorry.

Vietnamese Fresh Spring Rolls

Reviewed: Mar. 5, 2002
I've had a vietnamese dish named buns (boons). Anyway, since then I've remembered the ingredients but didn't know how to make the fish sauce (named nuoc mam). I found a recipe but when I made it, it didn't taste anything like the restaurant. So, I decided that was the best I could do, then decided to see if I could do spring rolls. I got your recipe and saw the fish sauce and couldn't believe it. I've looked all over this web site for it. Anyway, I made it and it was just like the one I'd eaten before. I poured the other out. I didn't have all the ingredients for the spring rolls, although I will soon. I'm just glad I looked for them. Thanks

Beef and Wine Soup with Dumplings

Reviewed: Feb. 21, 2002
I decided to make this tonite because I'm enjoying cooking different types food. It was great. When I first started cooking it, I thought the wine was going to take over, but it combined with the other liquids came out great. I did use roll dumplings and they were really good. I do want to try the others too. Thanks

Spinach Mushroom Quiche

Reviewed: Feb. 18, 2002
I don't like quiche but my husband does so I'll usually eat one piece. I made this and he was out but would be back for dinner so I went ahead and ate anyway. When he got he asked where the other half of the quiche was. he also says I never eat leftovers (which is usually true), but midday he decided to come home and eat lunch, so he asked where the quiche was. I ate it for lunch. So if I ate it, it was really, really good. I added artichokes and it was even better. i just had it last week and now i'm having it again. So far I haven't cooked anything twice (since I found all recipes) thanks

Crispy Fish Fillets

Reviewed: Feb. 12, 2002
This is a very good recipe. My husband loves fish and I don't, so I don't cook it very often and when I do, it's a great suprise for him. I used catfish strips (I have a phobia about raw fish)and not only did hubby love them, cut I ate several pieces myself. That's a very hight score, believe me.

French Coconut Pie

Reviewed: Jan. 11, 2002
This was a wonderful recipe. I took some to some of my favorite ladies at the nursing home and the next day she said it was so good, it reminded her of home when she was a little girl. She's 97. Thanks for letting me make her so happy.

Absolutely the Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Reviewed: Dec. 30, 2001
Everyone in and out of my family loved them. I usually don't do recipes twice since I found all recipes because there's too much variety to stick with one, but after this one I didn't try any others and have repeated several times. The best!

Pecan Pie I

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2001
Mom had made pecan pies for years and they were very sweet, but at Christmas she asked me if I'd fix one for my brother. I got this recipe instead because you said it wasn't as sweet. I made this pecan pie (my 1st) and it was great. I did put 3/4 cup brown sugar and used light corn syrup (mainly because it was the only kind I had and didn't want to go to store in mid pie. I also threw in a few extra nuts. My mom said it was great (It had been so long I don't think she knew the diffence between the recipes until I told her, but it was a big hit with everyone at Christmas

No Sugar Apple Pie

Reviewed: Dec. 29, 2001
I was going to try different no sugar added pies, but I tried this first and my father in law and I love it (we're both diabetics) and I was going to try some others, but my husband pipe up and said there was no need to try anything else and he ate the rest of the pie. Thanks for thinking of us diabetics and others... Susan from S.C.

My husband doesn't like icing on anything, but my brother wanted a chocolate pound cake with icing for Christmas. Before I take anything anywhere I make him taste test for me, as I am diabetic and he said it was great icing. That's a rave review. Susan, South Carolina
