My favorite family cooking traditions
Pavochon (puertorrican style turkey - made at Thanksgiving), tostones, mofongo, bacalaitos, lechon, congri', salsa criollo, yucca con mojo, flan, pollo guisado... and of course the crazy amounts of coquito made and drank at Christmas (coquito is a coconut, puertorrican spin on Egg Nog - but it will knock you off of your feet!)
My cooking triumphs
Making ginger, orange and lemon polenta cake with honey lemon glaze - from scratch, no recipe.. just based it on a simple cake recipe but changed the ingredients and added more baking powder to make it more of a spongey cake that will soak up the glaze. Made this into a three layer cake and it was wow.. amazing! Probably very unhealthy and sweet.. but lovely, moist and so sweet.
My cooking tragedies
Setting the kitchen on fire while making babaghanouj during the winter - remember.. DON'T put an oiled giant eggplant too close to the grill light - it's much safer to do it over an open spitfire or barbecue grill!
