This is indeed very popular at pot luck events but I too thought it was a bit bland so I added red pepper flakes. I would perhaps add a packet of taco seasoning next time. Also, Worchestershire sauce and mustard (powder or Dijon) add bite.

Gordon's Berry Breakfast Drink

I've been making this - or a variation thereof - for years. It's great breakfast staple. The pineapple juice adds the sweetness, and the bananas add the body/texture, but any ingredient can be substituted. It's a great way to get my family to take in stuff they might not like on their own too. For example, I always whirr in a bit of flax seed oil for my husband. And with a scoop of protein powder, it will hold you 'til lunch.

Dutch Babies II

Very good recipe. You can also pour the batter into aluminum pie plates. This way you still have to preheat the oven, but you don't have to pre-heat the plates. They'll conduct the heat just fine. Then I added chopped fruit and mixed fresh berries as a topping. Mmmm. Good for a special brunch. You can also squeeze half a lemon over it along with some brown sugar and cinnamon.

Beef Bourguignon I

Wow. This one really meets all expectations and doesn't disappoint: flavour, tenderness, mmmmmm. It appeared a bit fussy at first, with the 2 day marinating, the searing, frying the bacon, onions and carrots separately, the roux, etc. But man, it's so worth it. A good wine helps too. This one is a keeper and will be trotted out to impress guests.

Famous Chicken Adobo

My variations include adding a shot of sherry, a tablespoon or two of sugar and a piece of star anise along with the soya sauce and water. Cook that up and the flavour is far from bland, plain or just salty. For colour my dad used to add chunks of carrot and let that cook along. If you want to thicken it, add a bit of cornstarch (1 tsp or so) disolved in water, and bring to a final boil.

Tres Leches (Milk Cake)

This is really great cake and good for a group event. I skip the whip cream and bring a thawed bag of frozen (mixed) berries to spoon over each individual portion. Dee-lightful.

Best Bircher Muesli

My mother was German so we had a lot of this growing up. For it to be complete for me, it needs ground or flaked hazelnuts and chopped apples. So good!
