About this Cook
Retired and learning to cook for two. My husband and I have different diet restrictions which makes for an interesting meal. If we don't go out to a restaurant to eat, we take turns in the kitchen putting together our favorite foods.
My favorite things to cook
Slow cooker soups, pot roasts, chile verde, fresh salsa, cup cakes, breads and pizza.
My favorite family cooking traditions
Southern cooking like collard greens, deviled eggs, biscuits and gravy, pot roast and fried chicken.
My cooking triumphs
Learning how to make yeast breads and pizza dough.
My cooking tragedies
Peach cobbler with fresh peaches never seems to come out good. My husband likes a pie crust instead of dough for his cobbler. Also, the latest tragedy was the zucchini bread I made from a recipe on this website. Way too sweet and crumbly.

Meat-Lover's Slow Cooker Spaghetti Sauce
Making this sauce was a combined effort between my husband and myself. Using fresh ingredients was the best part of making it. My husband requested one carrot (diced) and one stalk of celery (diced) which just melted away into the sauce. He also added chopped fresh baby portobella mushrooms. Used fresh basil too. Cooked for at least 4 hours on low simmer. Wonderful sauce.

Albondigas Soup I
I'm still working on getting this soup to taste like the soup we get at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I usually put way too many ingredients in my homemade soup. I need to keep it simple in the future.

Guacamole
So simple to make. Using the food processor for a couple of pulses makes it smoother, but chunky is good too.
