About this Cook
I am a college anthropology professor. Among other things, I teach Food and Culture. I am also researching mothers decision about feeding their children so if you are a mother of a young child, I want to talk to you! I am trying to dust off old cooking skills to make tasty, healthy dishes that my son will enjoy.
My favorite things to cook
I like to recreate dishes I have tried while traveling. I mostly cook vegetarian dishes with different grain and bean combinations but my husband is a meat and potatoes man so I have been incorporating more meat and trying to experiment with lots of dishes to see what he will like best.
My favorite family cooking traditions
My mother makes nut and seed tacos (inspired from Diet for a Small Planet) for birthdays and other special occasions. My favorite food, but I have yet to try making them myself.
My cooking triumphs
It has been years since I have cooked regularly so these days every tasty meal is a triumph!
My cooking tragedies
I am horrible about burning things. When I first moved to Hungary, before I could speak the language my roommate and I bought vinegar instead of oil and didn't realize it until we had added it and all the vegetables to the pan. Burned everything but luckily didn't burn down the kitchen.

Autumn Muffins
Perfect names for these muffins! Lovely treat on this chilly fall day. I made several changes based on ingredient availability and preference. I left out the hazelnuts, substituted dried cherries and dates for the cranberries and figs, used half whole wheat and half all purpose flour, plain yogurt for half the butter, and blue agave for half the sugar.

Spinach Brownies
Just made this and I can't stop going back for one more bite! Sautéed the spinach with chopped onion and garlic. Added black pepper and nutmeg and used a mixture of mozzarella, pepper jack, parmesan, and feta because that is what I had on hand. Sprinkled wheat germ on top which I think made them extra yummy!

Playgroup Granola Bars
So good and so easy! I used dates and chocolate chips and substituted maple syrup for honey - a little less than called for since the dates are so sweet. They turned out perfect and will be great to take to work. I look forward to making this again and trying out new combinations.
