Special Buttercream Frosting

Reviewed: Jun. 19, 2010
This frosting will make you just go "yummm"! I made with half butter and half shortening for a cake, which was awesome, and 1-1/2 cup shortening and 1/2 cup butter for filled cupcakes with strawberry filling, where I did not want such a buttery taste and they came out tasting like zingers! I prefer less vanilla though, and will decrease it some next time. Definitely a keeper!

Carrot Cake III

Reviewed: Jun. 20, 2010
Wonderful frosting, I did do some mods so am giving it only 4 starts as I decreased the sugar and went with 1 tsp cinnamon and 1/2 tsp nutmeg otherwise this one is a keeper! If making a layer cake I would double the frosting recipe as it would not be enough.

Mushroom Chicken Parmesan

Reviewed: Jun. 28, 2010
The only modification I made as suggested was to season the flour lightly with garlic salt and sprinkle the chicken lightly with seasoned salt before flouring. Otherwise it was awesome!

Deep South Fried Chicken

I agree with the method but the seasoning is WAY too bland.

Ham Breakfast Braid

Reviewed: Jun. 29, 2010
The crescent roll dough overpowers the dish. It would do well to use only 1 can of dough using half of it as the bottom and the other half for the braids, splitting the side rolls lengthwise. I was the only one who came close to liking this dish, everyone else left in the plate. I only used 2 ounces of ham instead of 4. I gave it only 2 stars also for the recipe being so far off as even the length of time to cook was WAY longer than the 10-12 minutes it actually takes to cook.

Blueberry Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 1, 2010
It was OK. Kids did not like it. I used 4 tbsp cornstarch and it was still very runny. Will not make this again.

Peanut Butter Cream Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 29, 2010
I followed recipe exactly. It was OK, my son the peanut butter lover really liked it but I thought it too heavy on the p'nut butter. Also would cut the cool whip back just a bit.

Banana Cream Cheese Pie

Excellent fluffy pie. Quick and easy to make. Be sure to whip up the cream cheese good with the sugar to avoid graininess.

Dutch Babies II

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2010
Taste food. They apparently are supposed to fall flat after removing from the oven, I thought I was doing something wrong! Not sure what to call them though, kids look at me funny when I ask them if they want to try a dutch baby!

Very easy to make, and yes it is more of a cake but who cares what you call it, it is delicious!

David's Yellow Cake

Reviewed: Aug. 5, 2010
It was good. Texture is firm as expected for homemade (like comparing store bought bread with homemade, just is different). Didn't go stale fast like Betty Crocker recipe book versions.

Cherry Dump Pudding

Reviewed: Aug. 6, 2010
Not sure why it called a pudding, it is definitely a cake, but good nonetheless. Took longer to bake because I did not have a 10X10 dish, so the closest I had was a 9 1/2 round pie dish.

Chicken Fettuccini Alfredo

Reviewed: Aug. 13, 2010
Delicious, but if I have to make any modifications it doesn't merit 5 stars. I thought the sour cream at the end accentuated the bitterness, it was nicely rich and sweet before adding it; I used heavy cream instead of hald and half...I always try to stay true to the recipe but the cream was calling for this dish! Also, the chicken was quite bland without added salt while cooking, and it needed browning before turning out of the pan. I found the timing of the fettucini cooking was off; the water should be at the boil while cooking the onions but add the fettucini while you are adding the milk/cream and waiting for that to heat up and your fettucini should be cooked as the other is heated through with the cheese. I also omitted the tomatoes.

Country Breakfast Casserole

Reviewed: Aug. 29, 2010
It was edible. I agree with previous reviewers that the bread was unnecessary, except that maybe 1 slice scattered on top might give it that crouton-like crunch that overpowered it as written. Salt was needed to the egg mixture. The baking time was WAY off, needed at least 1 hour. Also I agree that the gravy mix got lost in the recipe, all that good taste seemed to disappear for unknown reasons.

Baked Bar-be-Que Chicken

Reviewed: Sep. 3, 2010
Not really a recipe, it would have been much better if you just dumped the bbq sauce on at the beginning and baked uncovered for 1 hour 20 min. Skip the garlic powder and add salt! Came out much too soggy and not at all bbq-ish.
