Cake Project #20: Paula Deen's Grandgirl's Fresh Apple Cake From Georgia. OK, I am getting real tired of this cake thing. I actually bought this book, as I had it checked out from the library for over 3 months. But this "takes the cake" (pun intended). Not a bad cake, but you know how you look at a recipe, and the ingredients, and say to yourself "now THAT'S something I want to eat!". Not so with this one. I like fresh apples, but not so much pecans, and there's COCONUT in this darn cake! It IS Christmastime, and if I need a white elephant gift I know just the thing.

***UPDATE***

Apparently, this cake takes some aging for a day or so to fully integrate its flavor. The next day, and even the day after that, it was MUCH better. I should have known not to doubt Paula Deen, as long as the cake project book's author doesn't mess with the original recipe!

Gee ILP, kinda harsh dontcha think? You did read the recipe before you made it didn't you? You already knew it had coconut in it. If you didn't like coconut, why did you add it and then complain about it? And you are tired of making cakes? Well, give yourself a break and make something else for a while. I saw Paula's Uncle make this the other day on TV and it looked pretty good to me. Don't mean to hurt your feelings or make you mad, just making an observation. Take care:)

Hi there! I am making cherry Christmas cakes to mail to eastern Canada. My question is how to you "feed" the cake? By this I mean do you poke holes with a skewer to add the sherry? I would appreciate it if someone has the answer! Merry Christmas!
