Persian Shish Kabob

This was great! I made it for an appetizer party, and got rave reviews from all attendees- including the kids. Served with my own tzatziki sauce. Really *really* good!

Alaine's Blue Cheese Dressing

Reviewed: May 6, 2012
I've been making this dressing for years- my husband even asks for it by name. And many thanks have been given to Alaine for sharing her recipe!

Breakfast Loaf

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
This was really excellent. Made it without the veggies for my suspicious family, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Added more cheese and made more layers, and it was so tasty we finished the left overs for lunch.

Hot Breakfast Couscous

Reviewed: Feb. 8, 2011
this was fantastic! Made mine mostly according to the recipe, but didn't measure anything but the milk. For the people who say it comes out as a lump- well of course it does. It's couscous. Just fluff with a fork as you stir in the fruit. My cinnamon was closer to 1 1/2 tbsp, with a very generous dollop of honey, and it was delicious!

Apple Pie

Reviewed: Jul. 7, 2011
I love this recipe! It was easy, delicious, and received race reviews from my entire family. First caveat- I tasted the spice blend, and was a little underwhelmed. So I used 1 tsp cinnamon, 1/4 tsp each nutmeg and Ginger, and a generous 1/8 tsp cloves, and a 1/4 tsp salt. I also upped the lemon juice to 3 large sloshes( about 1/3+ cup) and the flour to a generous 1/3 cup. We ended up cleaning the apple bowl with extra dough bits, it was so good! I used my family's pie crust (simple butter and flour with ice water in a food processor), and brushed the crust with milk and dusted with brown sugar. Absolutely divine. I can safely say this is the new gold standard in my family!

This bread is absolutely perfect. Excellent crumb, beautiful crust, moist without being soggy, light but without large holes. Just beautifully delicious. This will be the bread I make every time. Just simply a perfect bread recipe.

My family loves this recipe- don't change a thing! It's fabulous cold- but it's also phenomenal hot. And it goes with just about everything.

Hummus III

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
This needed spices. But after adding a large dose of cumin(I started with 1 TB and worked up), garlic powder, fresh ground black pepper, and extra cayenne, it was the best hummus I'd ever had. Even people who usually don't like hummus, liked this.

Byrdhouse Mushroom Barley Pilaf

Reviewed: Oct. 25, 2013
I was really hopeful for this recipe. Whole grains, sherry and mushrooms- I didn't think it was possible to go wrong. But the flavor just wasn't very good. It was flat, without much depth, and fairly boring. Followed the recipe to a "t", but it really didn't impress me. To fix the leftovers, I made a sherry chive pan sauce. Saute 2 tablespoons grated onion in 2 tablespoons of butter for 1 minute. Deglaze with a 3 tablespoons of sherry, and reduce slightly. Add 2 cups( or 1 can) chicken stock, and reduce to half. Add 1 tablespoon of chopped chives, and 2 tablespoons of butter off the heat, and pour over the leftovers.

Tater Tot Casserole III

Reviewed: Feb. 5, 2011
Followed the recipe as indicated. Looked great, smelled good, but I did not care for this. The meat portion was pretty nice, but with the tater tots- no. I might make the meat again and add real potatoes, but it'll be a while before my family forgets how bad this was. I ended up making a frozen pizza instead.
