Festive Shortbread Logs

Awesome cookie. My daughter and I had a great time cutting out shapes, making logs and then dipping the cookies. Would suggest dipping first about half the cookies, then using the left overs to drizzle the shapes, using a spoon. Time consuming but then, it's a labor of love and well worth the time I spend with my family. Did I mention the awesome cookie at the end?

Apple Strudel

good basic strudel, needs some work. Use clarified butter for a better result, and you didn't need quite so much. Use a pastry brush, it makes a big difference, don't soak the pastry, even when "generous" You'll get a nicer finish at the end. The strudel needed a glaze at the end of baking to look really nice; by itself the strudel looked unfinished, and needed that "extra" touch.

Candied Yams

Simply Fantastic. I made these ahead of time and then just warmed them up in the oven next to the ham in the last half hour or so. I peeled, cubed then micro waved the yams, arranged them in a baking dish, brushed generously with butter, and then sprinkled a mixture of brown sugar, cinnamon and a bit of maple sugar that sitting around. Lightly topped with marshmallows, and then covered the entire thing popped it into the oven in the last 20 mins or so at 375. Uncovered it for 10 mins to toast the marshmallows a bit. All I can say is amazing. They were a bit sweet to be sure, but texture and smell were heavenly. My 3 year old got the most amazing look on her face when she tried them. I'll be doing these at christmas for sure now :)

Awesome Sausage, Apple and Cranberry Stuffing

Just tried the stuffing tonight, nothing but complaints -- I didn't make enough for third helpings! Wonderfully easy and straight forward. I did use bacon instead of of the sausage, and I preferred the sausage, but bacon worked well too. The stuffing came out perfectly in the bird, not mushy, just right texture. Will be doing this one for every holiday stuffing from now on.

Blueberry Coffee Cake I

Wow. I've made this about a dozen times now and I've had nothing but good reviews. I did replace the milk with buttermilk though, and I was careful to dredge my frozen berries in some flour and then add to my batter, put it into the oven very quick. No problems with purple cake. As well, I never used the streusel, this cake turns out quite well without it.
