About this Cook
My favorite things to cook
Are things my husband and company will love - I get a big kick out of making something wonderful that everyone enjoys - it is so much more than just feeding your face - it's about family and connecting over food
My favorite family cooking traditions
We make Kiflis at Christmas time with my husband's 93-year-old Hungarian mother. My husband and I make pumpkin bread and other Christmas favorites together. When she was alive my Nana used to make Sicilian cookies that were covered with sesame seeds.
My cooking triumphs
Making Beef Bourgionne before going to France and after what a difference...a carrot cake that was a big hit with my step-son for his birthday... Home grown roasted beet salad over mixed field greens including the baby leaves of the beet plant with warm lavender and lemon infused goat cheese patties, and a berry vinaigrette. The beets were from our garden and were delicious!
My cooking tragedies
Too many to remember in 1000 characters or less...BUT is it really a tragedy if you can still eat it and you proved the negative...but I did try to make kugle with leftover lasagna noodles and a can of sweetened condensed milk that I wanted to use up - not one of my better desserts or dishes for that matter...

Grandma's Lemon Meringue Pie
Very good - easy - husband and mother loved it and so did I...will make it again. Only thing I would say to make it better as far as the recipe is that I wish people would also give a measurement of the juice of two lemons since some are juicier than others - we had big lemons onour tree but they had a lot of that is more rind and less juice I guess?

Grandma's Harvard Beets
Very good beet recipe - simple instructions, readily available ingredients, easy recipe and very tasty - took to July 4th party - received lots of compliments - I had never made a beet recipe like this before - I only had fresh beets and I tried to cook them in the sauce (peeled and thinly sliced, but it took too long) better the second time when I cooked the fresh beets which I peeled and sliced first (cooked until tender in boiling salted water) and then followed the recipe as directed. Yummy - definitely would make again.
