My mother was a proud cook and I followed in her footsteps. I enjoy seeing eyebrows raise and hearing wow when people taste my dishes. I have several of my own creations. I grow my own herbs that I use in my cooking.
My favorite things to cook
My favorite thing to cook is actually to smoke meats. I love the smell of hickory or other hardwoods while slow smoking a pork butt or some chickens. I also love to cook Italian and wish I knew more about it. I am fascinated with French cooking and believe one would probably have to take formal classes to succeed at it.
My favorite family cooking traditions
I was raised in the northwoods, far from town. My father kept us five kids fed with venison and lots of potatoes. My mom baked the finest apple pie. She worked at developing the perfect crust, and has since taught my wife how to bake that delicious pie. She canned her own pickles and they were fabulous. We never went hungry.
My cooking triumphs
My finest hour was when I cooked fried chicken for 100 people at my parents 50th wedding anniversary. I'd never cooked for that many before. It went over real well. I also cooked a two pound african lobster tail on a charcol grill. I still have the fondest memories of doing that. I lived right by the beach!
My cooking tragedies
Once while living in Florida, I was going to make cerveche and had purchased fresh cod and all the ingredents. When I went to prepare it I noticed little brown spots in the flesh and stuck the knife blade into one. Much to my astonishment a worm popped out! I was so disgusted!
