My favorite family cooking traditions
Birthdays are pie instead of cake, apple for son-in-law, pumpkin for daughter, and very banana cream for hubby. We also don't do turkey unless it's wild, so instead we have glazed ham or chicken for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Christmas also always comes with meat pie and Norwegian meat balls in mushroom/pepper gravy.
My cooking triumphs
My apple pie is always scrumptious. I adjust the sugar depending on the apples I use, and always add extra cinnamon. It doesn't matter if I use store bought apples or my home grown Northern Cooking apples, everyone wants more.
Also, my home made spaghetti sauce seems to get raves reviews from everyone who partakes. I start with a canned sauce then add meat, spices and some TLC. Usually two cans of sauce will expand to fill my 12 quart pot, some to use right away, and some to freeze for later use or for when my daughter grocery shops in my freezer and cupboards. lol
My cooking tragedies
I seem to be unable to make pea soup. Every attempt has been inedible, even the dogs (there have been a few over the years) won't eat it. :)
